Big square room with nice wooden interior, and even an open fire! I must say the place looks amazing. Mostly older people inside, and the beer selection reflects that. Lots of Belgian classics and sweet high abv beers. A few local bottles. I didn't have a beer here as I was not in the mood for their offerings (and they didn't have any ticks). I could be nice to sit here on some afternoon with my parents, I'm sure they'd love it here when it's not too busy.

Busy social brown café with fireplace and 20 taps of mostly Belgian and German brews. Lots of bottle options, lots of Belgian style classics and a few modern dutch craft. Near metrostop Oostplein and quite a bit removed from the center of town. It seems like a gezellig brown pub but not a place you need to discover for the beer or any other experience they offer.

A lovely old brown bar packed with character. They have 15 Taps and an extensive bottle selection. Most beers are Dutch / Belgian old school beers. Not much from the newer Dutch craft brewers which is perhaps the only thing that lets this place down. It’s a superb place to be during a winter evening when the lights are low and the open fire is burning. Friendly knowledgeable and helpful staff. Solid wifi. One of the top bars in Rotterdam.

Based on a lot of visits - mostly in the past. Great location, perfect ambiance. The place could easely be the best in Rotterdam if only they put more energy in the beerselection. Selection is really a bit disapointing, all the usual suspects. Come on guys, put some new breweries on the menu! Prices ok.

Visited during the Dutch Beer Challenge with Tim Skelton of Beer in the Netherlands fame. I had not been here since 2002 - not sure the beer menu had changed much. And there is the point. Fabulous atmospheric bar, full of old-style Belgian ales and not much that is of the moment.

We (me, dad and Barry) visited Locus Publicus at the end of the evening on Saturday 14th March 2015. It was very easy to find being located smack opposite the Oostplein tram stop which we had arrived at. It appears to be a one room square shaped pub, with large floor to ceiling windows at the front (I think). The beer list (mostly permanent) was helpfully put on large chalkboards behind the bar, it was a huge list with all of the usual Belgian suspects, however the tap list on the LH side as you enter did change and indeed was changing whilst we were there. It was very popular, no seats available when we arrived so we sat outside, ok it wasn’t very warm but we had our coats on and it was dry. I noticed a pub next door called International Locus Publicus (or something similar), in contrast it was extremely quiet, but I wondered if this as the name suggests is a new branch serving International beers. I tried to see if I could see a beer list for the new place but couldn’t, there may have been a list behind the bar that could sort of make out, if so it didn’t look so big, one member of staff was moving between the two establishments.

Distinctly old school, pretty dark and dingy. Decent enough selection and service.

Nice place to go for a quick beer BUT i was VERY disappointed with the beer knowledge of the staff working there so don’t expect to get any sort of recommendations what so ever. I went in last night and was in the mood for a barley wine, i asked the barman what selection they had, he had absolutely no clue what a barley wine was. They also don’t know how to serve a beer, i went another time and ordered an Orval, it was served to me in a balloon glass and ALL OF IT was shoved into a glass as you would a heineken i was embarrassed for the bar that is supposed to be a proper beer bar that they served an Orval the way they did, it was an insult to the beer. I will continue going there from time to time but i always make sure to ask that i serve my own beer and i also choose my own glass. The bar has potential but definitely needs to improve their staffs knowledge of what their serving.
