Comments: If you are into beer and in Saxapahaw, your #1 stop is Haw River. Stop in here for good sandwiches and perhaps grab a six pack of US craft beer or NC local beer. Selection is limited to about 90 different bottles, but all are refrigerated. Some special edition singles. Good stop to know, but not a critical beer place.

I bumped the selection and overall rating up a bit just because of the location of this place. I visited the quaint, trendy town of Saxapahaw for the first time in several years. I intended to get lunch at the great general store...I did not expect to leave lunch with bottles of 4 Calling Birds, Sculpin, and Wilco Tango Foxtrot. 5 swing door coolers of beer is all they have, but the selection is great and the prices are not inflated because of the town’s relative isolation. It’s well-curated too, and though i didn’t ask for or need help, the posted staff picks indicated that at least a few of the employees know their beer. Kind of a snooty, more organic-than-thou atmosphere overall, but it comes with the territory. It’s a pretty good destination, because the cafe serves delicious locally-sourced food and the store has a collection of very nice wines, cheese, gourmet sodas, local meats & dairy, etc.
