a very variable experience. in the afternoons pleasant atmosphere and good service, but in the evening (especially around weekend) unpleasantly full and impossible to get served. I find it a useful place, as itís somewhere I can drink with ínormalsí while still getting a decent British or foreign beer. foreign list long but ultimately a bit tame for those of us who travel abroad.
2016 update: now under Abbeydale ownership and a new manager, beer range much improved. More keg fonts, more interesting stuff going through them, and a more interesting bottle list. Caskwise the non-Abbeydale range can be hit and miss but always something decent on
One of The best pub in Sheffield.. Good selection with something different from the usual things ( D.IPA ) a very high price.. If you go for ales by Handpump is still cheap .. Nice staff smiling and joking with you ..great place
Been coming here since the place opened, and itís never been as good as it is now. Owned by Abbeydale brewery, and run by a former Sheffield Tap manager it now has a beer range that takes some beating. Plenty of staff. Plenty of room. Decent prices. A must visit.
Visited on 20th May 2016. Large pub with a bottle shop inside situated on the edge of a square. Itís open plan and is a little dark inside but has plenty off seats, we opted for comfy and set about trying some beer. Good range of cask and keg beers. Picked up a bottle of interesting lime beer too. Really good range of beer, service friendly and decent prices. Really like this place.
Visited on Friday 20/05/16 around 9pm.
Large open plan boozer located at the bottom of small tower/office block. Decor is nothing to write home about but is generally fine, a mish mash of cozy chairs and tables the place has the feel of a student union in some ways and is located next to one. Beer wise the Devonshire had the best selection in town for me ... about a dozen cask lines offering largely local breweries and ten or so craft keg with some interesting picks ... I scoped a new One Mile End beer here ! There is also a well stocked bottle shop to the right of the bar for drink in or take away. Service was prompt and friendly.
Overall a must visit ... best choice in Sheffield for me.
A huge centrally located pub. There is something here for everyone. They have a great cask selection from local breweries and a good keg selection from brewers far away plus a great bottled selection too. Solid wifi and good service. Probably the premier bar in Sheffield.
Open-plan pub, renovated and modern. Smelled a bit of bleach, which was a bit off-putting but not the end of the world. Big cask and bottle selection. The cask is very local. Focusing on Abbeydale, Blue Bee and such outfits. Bottle selection tends toward the US/Belgian. A few interesting and well-priced craft keg as well. A place that loves good beer, but is missing the atmosphere and intimacy of the best pubs in the area.
It would appear that this large open=plan and very popular pub is now owned by Abbeydale Brewery which means that their beers are the most prolific although other ales were also on offer - there is a very good overall range. Didnít eat so canít comment on the food but they were serving plenty of it so it must be popular. The pub is in an area where there are several other good ale houses but the DC is always worth a visit.
Lots of pine and comfy furniture it looks like a Wetherspoons. But lots of good foreign beer (though mostly in bottles). A good choice and quality always been good of cask ales. Food seemed rather expensive.
