(Visited 02/2013): Red House BBQ is a destination barbecue joint in Tehachapi downtown. There is a small lot next to the building and street parking.

The interior is cozy with eclectic decor. Walk up ordering then grab a number and a free table if you can find one. There is a patio out back too along with their smoker.

The beer is located in a cooler by the registers. There are over 25 with CA selections like Kern River, Stone and Mission. Some imports and other domestic craft breweries as well.

Service at Red House is good. We actually met the owner the day before our visit at Kern River for the Citra release and the guy knows his beer and hosts after-hours tastings. The staff is friendly and efficient too.

As far as the BBQ, very good stuff. The "Rib Of The Beast" is excellent and the macaroni and cheese is as good as advertised, among the best I have ever had.

Overall this is a must stop in Tehachapi. They don’t have 100s of beers but the ones they do have are worthwhile, and you can get some great barbecue to boot.

Visited Feb 16, 2013 on my way back from SF Beer Week.

This was half way through a long day and I was definitely ready for a good meal. Good food but typical high priced BBQ prices. Turns out the sandwiches (which come with a side) have a half pound of meat in them so it’s cheaper to get the small sandwich ($7.99) than to get a 1/2 lb and side seperately ($7.99 + $3). They charge $1.25 for ice water... and they were out of at least 3 of the 7 sides. All that said my brisket sandwich was excellent and the side of mac and cheese was also good (they were somehow out of their house chili, cornbread, and a third one that had already been erased from the board).

Beer wise it’s a case of less is more. There is one small fridge full of bottles including Unibroue 17, various Stone seasonals, a Uinta or two, and good ole Indian wells. While I assume that you can ask for a glass most people were drinking straight from the bottle. I did however spot what I thought was a Tripel Karmeliet glass with a very dark beer in it. Turns out the guy was drinking wine out of it. So I guess they do have some "proper" glassware, if you ask for it.

The service was helpful and friendly but a bit slow. We were about 8 people back in line but it took 20 minutes before we even placed an order. Food came out maybe 10 minutes later.

I do love some BBQ so I wouldnt hesitate to eat here again and maybe have a beer with it.

A cool little joint out in the middle of the mountains. I’d read a bunch of reviews about how good the BBQ was so I went up there for that. I was happily surprised to find a decent craft local beer selection too. Had a Kern Just Outstanding IPA bomber on special for 4.50. Yep that’s not a misprint. I can’t even get it that cheap at the Kern river brewery. Also had lagunitas, stone, bear republic, paulaner, uinta, mission and others. Service was insanely friendly. Pulled pork sandwich with mac and cheese, and potato salad was great. Pull up and you can smell the goodness. I’ll be back.

Great little BBQ joint in downtown Tehachapi. Food was excellent and the portions are large. The pulled pork and brisket were both outstanding. Very good selection of beer for a small place. They had multiple styles from Stone, Lagunitas, Mission, among others. There was also a small selection of bombers from Kern River and Telegraph. Prices were adequate with most of the 12 oz. being $3.00. The staff was top notch, the menu was explained to us as soon as we walked in and the serving staff was attentive and courteous. Overall I would definitely recommend Red House if you are looking to enjoy a great craft beer with some outstanding BBQ.
