Visited 22nd May. The most disappointing bar we visited in Vilnius. It was a long walk from the centre and the promised farmhouse beers were off. To be fair it was a Sunday afternoon. The Cellar bar was virtually empty so no atmosphere though the staff were friendly and food reasonable.
I checked this place out after seeing it on a well-known travel website. Some very nice Lithuanian beer here. Staff were friendly and spoke both English and Russian. Definitely a place to check out if you want to try some of the local brews. Also there is a very extensive selection of foreign beer available.
Probably the next best thing after the Šnekutis locations to drink in Vilnius. A basement pub that is rather large place by Lithuanian pub standards, sits over 100. Maybe the largest tap selection I saw in Lithuania. When I was there I found many Lithuanian craft beers on tap that I didn’t find at either Šnekutis locations. Also a decent bottle selection, larger selection than the Šnekutis locations but not quite as extensive as Bambalyne. When you consider both taps + bottles then you realize this is certainly one of the best place to experience Lithuania craft beer. The tap station itself is really worth the visit and a few pictures, probably the nicest tap station I’ve ever seen in my pub-crawler life, all very nice wood sculptures. Food was good typical Lithuanian pub fare, I won’t describe it here, you’ll learn to love it. Crowd seems to be more the student type and the pub seems to get noisy, if you’re over 30 and want a more quiet atmosphere to enjoy your beers it is reommended to visit this place earlier during the day. One of the 4 or 5 mandatory places to hit when in Vilnius.
Cave-like interior is ok. Lots of beers on tap and all that I tried were in good condition. It isn’t on the menu, but they will fill half pints if you ask. Older man at the bar was a bit grumpy and did’t speak English, but the young woman was friendly and did. Lots of good beers here.
This is one of those occasions where our scoring system for places shows its primary weakness: there is no separation of "selection" (quantity) and "quality"...I’ve always disliked that, but oh well. This place has a comparatively good *selection* of beers (relative to other Vilnius bars), but sadly they were all in just as terrible shape as anywhere else in Vilnius...diacetyl-heavy, sour, and raw/underfermented. The bartender was about as surly, impatient, and unhelpful as one could ask for, so I felt pressured to just hurry up and order something. Since the Lithuanian beers were undrinkable, I ordered a bottle of Schlenkerla Maerzen, which was in ok condition, but the overall experience here was horrible.
