66 Visited on Tuesday 29/04/14 around 7pm for dinner.
Upstairs brewpub in downtown SLO, managed to park right opposite on the street.
The place was fairly busy, youngish crowd, but not heaving, decided to sit and eat at the bar.
Service was prompt and friendly, food was simply OK - I just had grazing food.
9 of their own beers on tap during my visit. Their score averaged at 3.06 for me, so pretty low end, that said there were 3 that scored 3.5/3.6 whilst 3 or so others were 2.6/2.7ish - just choose carefully unless of course you’re ticking across the board.
No go to destination, by a long way, but if you have an hour to spare in SLO then no harm done stopping by.

62 Neat looking place with good service. Food is just ok. The beers are quite good. Tase flights available. They have a decent selection of their own brews. Their IPA is really quite good. There’s a big music scene here too. |
70 Stopped in on a Friday night. Pretty packed with the college crowd (a $2 cover to get in, discounted shots and cocktails, some beers on special too). Service was pretty good, considering we pulled the douchebag move of ordering a flight on a busy weekend night. Beers were all pretty decent with the IPA being the standout. |
68 Been here twice now, once in the middle of the day a couple years ago and once last night (12/21/12).
The place gets pretty busy at night. I kind of felt like an asshole ordering a flight while he bar was packed on a Friday nigth but what can you do? The flight is set at 6 samples and you dont get to mix and match. I asked for tastes of the two and we got them for free. The beer isnt overly offensive but it isnt amazing either. I remember the Blueberry and the Pale being on tap at Yardhouse 5 or 6 years ago but I dont think they’re distributed anymore. Oh well. It’s mostly a college bar and the kids dont mind drinking it so I’m sure it all moves. Service isnt bad for a busy college bar though they dont know much about the beer, not that I would expect them to. There is an upstairs area where all the action is and a quieter darker bar downstairs. If you’re in the 21-25 year old age bracket I’m sure it’s a fun place to hang out, though I did have a good time for the 30 minutes that I was there yesterday. Not sure if they serve food or not. I never even asked. |
72 An interesting brewpub that is actually more of a music venue/bar/night club that has a brewery upstairs that happens to make some very fine beers. Mellow and spacious upstairs during the day and crowded at night, specially when they do keep the pint nights on tuesdays. The downstairs is the dance floor/stage and they host some very good acts for SLO and have concerts several times a week. Probably the best selection of live music on the Central Coast overall. The standard beers are a red ale, blueberry ale, honey blond, porter, pale ale, and IPA. Then there are usually a couple seasonals that range from German wheat beers and lagers, to imperial ales and stouts. Quality is always high, though recipes tend to the conservative side because of the large college clientele. I’ve yet to meet a bartender that know’s anything about beer. This place doesn’t deserve such good beer, but it’s nice as a music venue/bar that also has good house beer, rather than a geeky brewpub. |
76 Went to dinner here with some folks for work. A nice place for good quality beer (and even cider!). They were out of the blueberry, but I tried both the Honey Blonde and the Porter. I was really impressed with the quality of the porter, and would definitely come back again if in the area. |
74 Upstairs in downtown SLO in one of the old brick buildings. Nine of their beers were on draft and I had a sampler with lunch. The ahi salad wrap was excellent to go with the brews. The IPA was the best brew with lots of Simcoe hops in evidence! |
76 I went on a Thursday on Farmers Market day. Always a good atmosphere, live band playing. Young and old in there. The beers I drank were very good. |
74 My girlfriend and I were held up in SLO for a while, waiting for a bus out of there when walking around town, we found Downtown Brewing Co. Once we went inside, we were greeted by friendly bartenders who assisted us with everythign we needed even giving us a couple free beers because we were from out of town.
The food was absolutely excellent and the prices were fantastic. After eating, we played a round of a pool, where you pay by the hour. When we headed to the bar to pay for our 1 1/2 of pool time, he told us not to worry about it.
There was even an area with glass walls, so you could watch the brewer at work not far from your table. It’s rare to find this kind of treatment. So I definately recommend checking it out. Finally, the hemp beer that they brewed was fantastic!! Not one bad beer was tasted. |
