62 At the far eastern end of the city centre this is a pub with an eclectic layout and decor in a traditional older pub building - including one of the biggest selection of potato mashers your probably ever going to see along a pub wall. It has a character of its own, welcoming and comfortable with some classic tunes playing from the selected radio station through the speakers mounted in the top corner of the room. Next to the wood burning stove is the best place to sit in winter, but even better for drinkers is the selection of ales - several proper crafted beers from local brewers. Sadly I was forced out of this place when I found myself alone with a local who decided to have a sneaky and illegal indoor cigarette, and as a non-smoker I couldn’t stand it. |
58 Quite an unusual local pub. Nice decor, quite an interesting selection of real ales on tap (although not many). Menu basically consists of O’Hagans sausages and mash, although I didn’t sample the food, the staff seemed friendly enough, but this is definitely a "locals" pub. My wife complained about an unusual smell in the place (not sure if that was the sausages/fireplace/dog??). not sure we will be returning, but the pint of Irving Type 42 I had was in excellent condition. Its also in the CAMRA pub guide. not bad. |
