48 Visted 29 November 2013. Not much good to say about this soulless modern cafe except that is very handy for the tram stop. The prices are high and, with the exception of 4 De Dolle beers, the selection is pedestrian. Around 45-50 beers. |
52 Nice location. Above average classic selection. Tourist prices. |
68 Nice hangout place in the lovely town of De Haan. Sun terrace next to the railway stop. Nice atmosphere. The beer list is quite nice and service wasn’t bad. Wouldn’t take a detour for it, but a nice place in it’s own right and worth a visit if you’re staying nearby, or spending some time on the coastal tram. |
72 A decent bar with a decent selection. It indeed gets noisy in the evening, but I actually quite liked it last time I was there. A good hanging out place when you are in the area. |
70 The little town of De Haan, or Coq-sur-Mer as it was known in its old French name is a lovely place. Some of the architecture is very interesting. The Tower (De Torre) being one of those said buildings.
Right next to the coastal tram station, which was how we arrived and left (after missing the first intended tram), you can’t miss the place, it’s yellow for a start and big.
A suntrap terrace with tables under umbrellas has to be negotiated through before you get into the building, although there is another way in round the front, or is it the back?
Orange inside with pink curtains. It is a sunny Friday afternoon in September, we stay inside, even though the wife wants some sun. We sat in a corner to allow us to take in the place, basic tables and chairs, a disco stag in one corner, the bar covers the whole lenght of the large square single room. Fairly quiet when we arrived, but the weekend crowds who come to the coast were arriving as we left at 18.00.
I love La Chouffe, bottled or on tap, the on tap one here was just about the best I have ever had. The throughput must be good here, which is why it tasted so good. Three blokes at the bar were drinking it when we arrived and they had obviuosly been in a while. Others were ordering it too.
Next I choose an Abbaye des Rocs, but they had run out, so I had another beer on tap, this time a Moinette Blonde, very nice.
Service was fine and the place is obviously popular, a mixed bunch of customers, mostly well to do 30 somethings, both sexes.

70 I’ve been coming to this place as a student, long before I was interested in beers. During a recent visit I was amazed by the pretty impressive selection. Too bad the staff is totally ignorant about the beers and if you come here in the evening, the place is almost like a dance club. Noisy, crowded and full of local youth. Then this place is not about speciality beers at all. |
44 A joke! I visited one morning shortly after opening time. Although there were only two customers and four staff I had to wait about 10 minutes to be served as the staff seemed to be more interested in chatting among themselves and had mastered the art of avoiding eye contact with customers who were clearly just an inconvenience. The same thing happened when I was ready for a second beer. The prices were far too high. I didn’t stay to eat. What a contrast with another place on the coastal tramway - in Nieuwpoort as I recall. It was crowded, yet within seconds of my sitting down there was someone ready to take my order. Prices were about 40% lower. Give Torre a miss! |
66 Nice selection of beers, but a noisy café where people come to chat and to meet, not for enjoying beers. |
84 interior has been restyled, normal beerlist has been shortened to some 45 beers. One should ask for the extensive beerlist which has up to 120 different belgian specialities. |
84 Was here two times
first on november 08 and last on jan. 09.
Nice place and good choice of beers.
GOOD. |
