70 A sprawling faux-English pub on the northern outskirts of Hamilton, two hours drive south of Auckland. It’s just a hundred metres off SH1 if you’re driving south. Good selection of house brews - around 8 beers the day we visited - with quality varying from ho-hum to excellent. Beer prices seemed quite reasonable to us Aussies. An excess of English pub atmosphere - stained timber, ceramic mugs hanging from hooks above the bar, Pommy beer signage, Union Jacks billowing overhead. Good pub grub with the usual emphasis on meat and deep-fried everything. Very friendly staff. All in all, a very worthwhile stop-off with a lot to like. |
