80 Large pub-like place with a really interesting range of local and regional beers. Seems to be a gathering place for local brewers as well, so you can tap into that local scene. Staff is very friendly. Didn’t try the food. Definitely worth a stop. |
38 First visited the house in 2011 and raved about the place. Visited in again in 2014 and couldn’t be more disappointed. No cask ales on tap - they were the highlight of the last trip and the hallmark of any good beer bar in NZ at the moment. Rest of the selection was OK, but not inspiring. Food menu was a disappointment so nipped next door to Gottenburg Restaurant (excellent beer, food and service). On return to the House for a final beer was informed by a rude ’bouncer’ on the door that we were not allowed in. What? The first time I have ever been refused entry to a bar in my life. I was absolutely dumbfounded. I suspect the bouncer was looking for a tip in order to grant entry to the bar. Do the owners of the House realise what is happening??? Avoid until the owners/managers sort this place out.
