64 Formerly a brewpub (under a different name) but apparently it’s now completely different to the way it was. It’s been nicely renovated in a modern gastropub style; there are squashy sofas, flagstone floors and a very light and airy conservatory area at the back. All very pleasant. The beer range wasn’t huge but there was enough to choose from. Although they no longer brew there there’s a house beer, which appears in an adapted print showing a rotund, rosy cheeked chap brandishing a foaming pewter mug.

72 An attractive and busy brewpub/restaurant on the opposite side of the Market Square to Lovibonds. This was formerly the Henley Brewhouse , but has since been taken over by Brakspears, renamed, and disappointingly brewing on site has stopped. The house beer now being provided by the nearby Bell Street Brewery (also Brakspears). Most of the beers available now come from the Marston’s stable - but there are usually a couple of local guests. |
