A large sports pub spread over two floors with the servery to the left displaying a surprisingly large range of cask ales. The draught beers can be bought in one-third pint measure. Polite service. Thanks to jjsint for taking Finn and me here. (20.02.2019).

Big (possibly too big?) and very city-centre-y (doormen, loud music, slightly over-formal service), the newest Head of Steam feels like a fun place to be. The choice is massive but for all the quantity of beer, the choice is safe: tickers will always find something, but not as much as you might think. Beer choice concentrates on well-known Belgian, UK and US names, and you can always bulk up your Durham ticks with the Cameron's beers (not as many as you'd think, but they're certainly present). I'm here on opening night but I'd guess that this will become a mainstay but not a first choice for me, and that it will add to the Leicester craft bar scene without significantly altering it. Still, Leicester is behind the likes of Nottingham for craft beer, so a new bar is always welcome here. One warning though: it's pretty expensive, possibly vying with Cafe Bruxelles for the honour of worst value pub in town.
