Finally made it to this place last Saturday and it was a pleasant experience: the brother of the man running the place, a very enthusiastic, hospitable and knowledgeable guy, is apparently the brewer of the Malterfakker brand so those beers are obviously present, alongside international craft beers (including things like KBS and Ten Fidy) as well as industrial beers like Leffe Blond - with rotating taps, some of which were occupied by a Polish craft brewery attending LIBF. Pleasant environment, incorporated in the museum with a young lady playing live classical music on a piano in the foyer... No complaints and will certainly revisit whenever I'm in Leuven, apart perhaps from the fact that the spaghetti bolognese, with still raw, large slices of carrot in it and lacking in depth of flavour, is subject to improvement - but the asparagus on the other hand was excellent. Food portions are copious for the price too. Leuven needs a place like this.
Good craft beer bar with around 15 taps. They had just had a Recraft tap takeover, so the influenced the selection at my visit. The staff had good beer knowledge, but he was not very good at pouring the beers. I would certainly go again if in Leuven, because having a break from Belgian beer styles can be nice.
Associated with a museum & it looks like that, slightly stilted odd decoration / furniture, bit more slick than practical dare I say. Touch small with weird use of space. Very eclectic tap list, I couldn’t find any logical at all to it, from sweet industrial mainstream beers, few foreign beers to very obscure tiny Belgian Client brewers. Upside is that you are likely to find something new & it covers a large amount of possible clients. It looks like it was made by either someone trying to please everyone or someone with a real off-wall taste & I lean towards the second theory. Their own De Vlier beer is chokingly good given how all other De Vlier beers aren’t good in my opinion. Alone their house beers make it worth going here & I understand that there is not much else in Leuven. Staff is very seasoned horeca people. Interesting they offer several vegan options, I had a cold vegan meatballs styled snack which was rather weird. Got the usual vegan joke from a client which was as usual hilarious to others but something that have already heard over & over & over & over..... Interesting place & definitely a worthwhile visit.
Outdoor and indoor service. Modern indoor rooms with a lot of light coming in. Young clientel. Staff friendly and quick. 7 taps with macros. Lot of bottled beers. Did not count them. Snacks available at fair prices. Cosy, nice.
