With grovelling apologies for abusing the Ratebeer ratings in this way but we have a small international crisis. Belgium is about to lose one of its most eccentric cafes, hitherto unknown even to Good Beer Guide Belgium. At the back of this unassuming little cafe is a unique ’wip’ for papingo, a sport that translates into popinjay, or vertical archery in English. This involves a 33-metre high roof extension so that participants can shoot wooden chickens off perches and get out of the way in time to avoid falling arrows - and ’chickens’. The cafe is up for sale and because of its position will likely go for a huge sum for its development potential for apartments. See the back story on the website. I doubt there is anything that can be done but if you have friends who can get Leuven city council to put a preservation block on it please call them now. And for the rest of you, visit if you can.
