74 Visited on trip to 24 northern counties with OGJ 03.01.18. Ten ales on cask, all served without sparkler. All ales were two quid on our visit. Close to the railway station. |
80 Handy located close to the railwaystation , easy spotable red brick house, all Ales 2 pounds posted at the entrance. Long bar with 10 HP and 12-14 on keg, good selection ! Red bricks in the interior as well, mixed with chalked walls, nice. New wave music on speakers, conversation friendly volume, a good place. |
84 Handsome redbrick alehouse bristling with handpumps a 20sec stagger from Nuneaton station; if you have more than 5 mins between trains (or happen to be in Treacle for any other reason) it would be inexcusable not to swing in for a couple. Pumps 1-7 on the chalkboard ales; 8-10 real ciders or perries. Oakham JHB is permanent, the rest guests often including Oakham, Wentwoth, Cottage, Abbeydale. CAMRA discount, cheeky little continental selection in the fridge; Liefmans on keg. At time of writing all cask pints £1.95 Tuesdays; £2 for entire month of March. Bare boards, faux-gas lamps, roaring wood-burning stove with a railway sleeper slung across it for a mantel. Landlord Julian a gent who helped me source beer and lent me equipment to serve it at my wedding reception. He’s also an Oakham enthusiast and musical aficionado; Fridays and Saturdays the place throbs and seethes with eclectic live sounds, upstairs and down. Summer and winter festivals with 60 odd beers on stillage. At the (impossible) Sunday night quiz Nelly’s malapropisms are legendary. Sunday lunches lip-smacking but otherwise it’s posh crisps for fodder. Dogs allowed. Lawn and benches out back for the occasional sun-kissed clutch of halves; ticks guranteed. Considering moving to Nuneaton to be within walking distance of this place. Essential. |
