Comfortable local pub off the main drag in town. Spacious (not least because it’s almost empty on a Friday afternoon) with homely seating and even a tiny book swap library. Dog friendly and people friendly too. Four cask ales, none of which will set your world alight. However three of them are from the Steamin’ Billy brewery (not the most exciting outfit but good for rates). A few Belgian fruit beers (Timmermans etc) in the fridge. This may be a slight overrate considering the selection, but it’s a pleasant place to be.

The Three Crowns is a back street corner pub and going into the main bar, which is two rooms knocked into one, is like entering someone’s living room. There are sofas and armchairs, bookshelves and “Billy’s Book Swap”. Round the side is a more basic traditional bar leading to another small room at the back and a patio. As it’s owned by Steamin’ Billy I’d expected to see more of their own beers but there were just three, prominently displayed on one side of the bar. (Visited 19 February 2016).

Visited on 5th April 2014. Backstreet pub with a couple of rooms, decor was pretty decent, the place was very quiet so had a choice of seating. Beer range from Steaming Billy was decent enough both price and quality wise. Not sure I’d rush back but a standard local boozer.

Visited with my wife on 15th March 2016, late evening, as the weekly quiz results were being read out. Main room looked cosy and warm, we however sat down towards the toilets in an area my wife thought ’reminded her of a Midland Red Bus Depot waiting room’. No warmth in our seats, table or décor, just basic. Four hand-pulls, a few keg fonts. Lady behind the bar friendly, all four cask ales in good order, three from Steamin’ Billy, one guest. After the quiz we got Heavy Metal music. All in all I thought it a mish-mash of a place but the beers were fine.
