Please note this bar is now closed. I asked the restaurant next door and they said it was gone for good. Shame as last time the owner was very helpful and even gave us tourist tips.

Really a strange place to find, in a funny location, but oh is it a nice sight for sore eyes. In the basement of an upscale, slightly ridiculous shopping center with blaring techno-top40 music, and next to the escalators, an italian cafe-restaurant and a casino is a nicely appointed Belgian cafe. Offered a handful of taps, with some relatively rare local beers and two Belgians (Piraat 10.5% and Augustijn Blonde, though this was not available that afternoon). Lots of bottles, and a few on special. Prices were actually quite reasonable I thought. I was there on a pretty empty weekday evening, so don’t know how the atmosphere is on a busy night, but I’d gladly spend hours here any time. Really great to see

If you like belgian beer and unique architecture, this basement located bar is a place to visit. If you’re waiting for a movie to start and want belgian beer, it’s a place to visit. Otherwise, not interesting if you smoke or don’t like belgian beer. Have I mentioned that they have mostly belgian beers? ;) Very long beer list with a dirty tricks... most beer packages are numbered as different beers... I don’t care how many kinds of packages Lucifer has, it’s still one kind of beer to me. Part of the beers temporary unavaillable, bartenders are mostly bored, waiters... depends.

A couple of house brews for a couple of ticks, but otherwise, just another Belgian beer bar with not so much on tap. Additionally, I had the unfortunate experience while I was there of ordering a beer, which was not in stock so the bartender took the liberty to decide on another beer for me - not cool at all. Lots of things listed on menu not available. Should not be a high priority for tourists.

A modern beer bar situated on the bottom floor of a shopping centre. You probably couldn’t pick a worse location. A large range of bottled Belgian beers in the fridge. A few taps on offer however only two were available on my visit. As for the ambiance, well I was the only one there which felt a little strange, but it was late afternoon so perhaps things kick off later in the night. Also I’ve never witnessed a bar tender looking as bored as he did anywhere. A shame about the music being played as well - very cheesy 80’s pop tracks. Anyway it’s well worth a look and to enjoy a brewski and the venue is quite nice inside.

basement level pub/restaurant in a below-ground shopping center - very strange atmosphere. polished and modern but empty at night. good belgian beer selection considering the location. there’s a gaudy casino across the hall. weird.

In the inner center of the city this pub is guaranteed to be well visited by everyone not just beer freaks. Ambience is great for me, a bit dark but those candles at the table help to see everything you might want to. Wall waterfall in the length of some 30m is surely not seen often, while sitting on various places, on thick glass over the water, wooden floor, at the bar or at the barrels in front of pub really give you space. Atmosphere is complemented with big reproductions of Breughel, Rubens and other things. Service was actually great, knowing pretty much, despite minor oversights. The most important thing, the selection is definitely the best in Croatia and nearby countries. Only Belgian beers, somewhat of everything, and still they’re trying to get new beers every then and little. Prices are very good, but those are all belgian, so... Food is not applicable, only pretzel, which, however can also help. Really a great pub, but you should count to spend a lot when you once enter :)

Very odd location in the basement of a mall. Dark place with really odd decoration, obviously a fair amount of money went in there and the results are apparently there as the crowd followed. Solid selection of belgian ales with a little of everything and the locals sure appreciate that.

Just 5 minutes walk from main railway station and located in the basement (-1) floor of the Branimir Centar have a great range of the Belgian beers. The prices are OK and the atmosphere is quite cosy. Besides pretzels there is no food, but next door is Italian restaurant with many kinds of pizzas and pastas that can be ordered and delivered to Hopdevil.

Review from 2012:
Oh, man... how low have the mighty fallen. The first pub/company to bring Belgian beers to Croatia on a major scale, the first to sell Lambic in Croatia, now is in many ways a pale shade of what it once was. And it was to be expected I guess... It’s been a couple of years since they started cutting costs - the "wall of water" got turned off, and the beer selection got smaller and smaller. Now, they have 41 different beers overall, 3 of them both on tap and in bottle. And only one (1) out of at least 10-15 Belgian beers that remain from the original 100ish was available. Such a shame. The service is still good, the atmosphere, even without the wall of water, unchanged, the prices still not exactly perfect but better than some, but it’s no longer a must-stop for a beer geek. It will remain the place to go before of after a movie at the mall with my girlfriend or friends, but I doubt I’ll ever return here just for a new beer. I hope that their venture with a beer store fares well, though its location in the middle of nowhere on the outskirts of Zagreb doesn’t help one bit.

Rating from late 2006 & late 2008:
Located in the first "basement" floor of the Branimir Centar complex... easy to reach. Almost always crowded, this has become one of the "places to be", which is great for them, but not all that brilliant for the average beer enthusiast. It’s closed quite often for private parties and such "events". Still, one can easily find a place before 7PM I guess. The architecture is quite... odd and erratic, but ok I guess. The service tends to be very polite and relatively knowledgeable (more so than the average patron), and they try to do their best I guess. The selection is extremely good, and consists entirely out of Belgian beers. Some classics, some crappy ones, but the selection can satisfy everyone... and even despite that, a lot of people go there and order coffee (which I don’t mind much, but some do). The only food available is some pretzels, which I never tried. It’s a nice place, expensive in some ways, but it will definitely draw a lot of people to the world of craft beer. 3/9/13/-/-/17
