66 Update 4/12/2016: As Chris O notes, the pub is closed as unfortunately the landlord died. According to Pints West, there is a planning application to convert it into residential accommodation. This is a shame, as it means one of the last dozen or so completely unspoilt English pubs will be lost. Review 23/9/2007: Situated on the road between Cirencester and Lechlade, the Red Lion is an example of an unspoilt country pub (it is featured in the CAMRA national interiors inventory). It has two small rooms, in one of which drinks are served from the corner - there is no bar. Beers are limited to two from Hooky Bitter, and Timothy Taylor Landlord & Golden Best, served in good condition. Landlord and regulars were very friendly. An historic Cotswolds pub that is well worth visiting. |
72 Visited this place many years ago as one of the dwindling number of really unspoilt pubs that hadn’t changed for years. No bar counter and a couple of casks from gravity. Sounds like it still hasn’t changed much. Certainly not a beer destination in itself but you really should visit if you get the chance, before it’s too late. Recent reports suggest it’s currently closed - not sure whether that’s temporary or permanent but, given that the landlord must be getting on a bit, there’s a strong possibility that it’s the latter - so you may be too late already. |
80 John Barnard (landlord) keeps this historic pub as it should be with friendly locals and a warm welcome for all in this beautiful cotswold pub. |
