Nice pub, was very busy during afterwork hours. Decent selection of cask ales, some of them not that common. If you’re nearby and looking for a place to have a drink or two worth checking out.

Agree with kwik-lime. Not somewhere to go for their beer range, just a place for a quick beer after work.

Nice ambiance, often busy but there are three floors, but a fairly limited selection. Nice boozer for work drinks etc, not somewhere to check out for its beer range.

A pleasant Nicholson’s pub with six hand pumps and several keg taps.
The Pontefract Castle has the usual range of Nicholson’s beers and food and it’s a useful watering hole if you find yourself in the West End. When I visited they had a couple of new (for me) beers, including the Nicholson’s pale ale brewed by St Austell. The street level bar is light and airy and retains the feel of a Regency period coaching house. Downstairs there’s an atmospheric candlelit cellar bar. The service was friendly and good. A very nice Nicholson’s pub pretty close to Oxford Circus. The selection is pretty typical for a Nicholson’s. On my visit they were featuring the IPA Festival, which was nice. The pub itself is very clean and has three levels. I particularly enjoyed the wrought iron spiral staircase and curved bars that wind around the staircase. Prices are alright, bartenders were fine. Has a normal food menu for a Nicholson’s but I didn’t have anything. Certainly not one of the premiere beer destinations in London, but a good pub with a charming, dynamic ambiance worth checking out at least once.
