64 Thanks to Eric (heemer77) for the tip on this place. Overall, it’s not as good as Jonh’s Grocery, but they defintiely have some things that Jonh’s lacks. This includes several Green Flash offerings. Singles/mixed six packs would be much appreciated if anyone out there is listening. |
30 Went here again a couple months ago. The newest owners seem to be selling off most of the craft stock left over. Not worth a stop. Previous reviews follow. Ok, new place review. This has reopened yet again, and it has the exact same bottles that were on the shelf when they closed up six months ago. It is obvious they are making no effort to replace the micro selection they had that was decent. At this point, if you are stuck in Coralville, the Hy Vee would be a better bet, at least they have turnover. But if you came this far, go to John’s. |
56 UPDATE, 7/05: Place is being sold. Went in the other night to see plenty of the beer stock reduced. Apparently there won’t be as much variety under the new ownership, and the homebrew section is under question. No great loss in either department. John’s is still the place to go, and for homebrew, nothing beats mail order from Northern Brewer (Twin Cities), in my opinion.
ORIGINAL REMARKS: Pretty good selection of craft beers and imports, but not much more than you’d find at John’s. Ambience is colder, less friendly than John’s, and a little less knowledgable and customer-oriented. While they carry a lot of beer, the sales people seem to care more about the wine and liquor. The homebrew section is mediocre at best, reliant upon a one-man distributor who does a good job of keeping the basic equipment stocked but a pretty pathetic job of stocking much in the way of ingredients. |
