Posthumous review as the Gateway was one of my regular watering holes when I had a season ticket for City. I only visited on match days but the place had the feel of a social club meets student union bar about it. Rectangular in shape, rather ungamely. Beers were laregely Tynemill and well kept. Service was always pretty good here to be fair, despite the matchday crowds. Hot roast baps from a carvery also made regular appearances. Never a great but always good for a quick pint or two to break up the walk from the Swann and Rushes! RIP the Gateway!

A university students geared pub that still manage to preserve some authenticity and serve a few real ales on top of the welcome, solid, but light selection of bottles. Not so warm in terms of service and certainly not amongst my favourite british pubs to relax with a beer, but a worthy 6th or 7th pub to visit in the city.

Large roomed pub with small non-smoking area, right on the edge of the University campus. Usual Tynemill beers (Gold, Elsie Mo) plus a couple of guests. Couple of dozen bottles (Duvel, Chimay and the like) plus several continental beers on tap. Opens at 11 so you can get a beer in here before heading round the corner to the Swan. Large screen TV for sports, could imagine it getting busy in evenings/termtime.

Very down to earth pub, popular with fans of Leicester City Football Club and Leicester Tigers Rugby team, as well as students at the adjacent De Montfort University and the very close Leicester Royal Infirmary. Has cherry beer on tap as well as Erdinger, Bitburger and a host of bottles, as well as regular and guest bitters with representatives from the Tyne Mills brewery always close at hand. A laid back affair, with a big screen for sports. 2 mins walk from the Swan and Rushes, 5 mins from the Criterion.
