No Longer In Business

I’m rating this now but I should let you know that all of the Thirsty Dog Brewpubs including this one have shut down, so if you are looking you won’t find it. It was a great place to get a great selection of their well crafter beers. The food was fantastic with something for most tastes. Too bad they are no longer around.

Packed on a Friday night, but service seemed pretty good nonetheless. Food was nothing special, but certainly adequate. And the beers were, well, let’s say that although they had a few good ones, they had too many lines tied up with beers designed to appeal to macro drinkers.

Dark tavern-like ambiance. Not too smoky, but then again the place as a whole wasn’t too busy even at 10:30pm on a Saturday night. They had around a dozen beers, including one on a beer engine. The service was pretty good, and the chicken fingers I had, although they were a little greasy, were homemade and tasted good. A nice brewpub. I wish I lived near one of these...

Stopped in on my way to Cleveland and the Great Lakes BC. Found my bartender just short of rude but he slung my beers quickly and efficiently. Nice selection (though I really only liked two to speak of, see my ratings). Good looking bar and in easy access of two freeways. Wish I had known about this when I lived in Ohio.

This Thirsty Dog location is in a suburb of Dayton. We had a heck of a time getting to the driveway because the sign that points to the access road is VERY easy to miss, and if you do you have to go past it, turn around and try again.

The atmosphere at this location is reminiscent of the Canton location. I’m not sure if this locale used to be a Mexican restaurant as well, but it has the same kind of stucco look. The brew works are in the rear of the restuarant. The bar is on the left, and the majority of the space is restaurant seating. They have several TVs, and a couple interesting pieces of breweriana.

Thirsty Dog keeps at least 15 beers in rotation at any given time, and that’s not a bad thing. Even better, you can get a sampler of 15 beers served on a bone-shaped tray for only $7.50! That is an amazing deal. Their ales run the whole gamut from American Lite Lager to Imperial Stout, and everything in between. I’m sure they have some bottled stuff too, but who cares.

The staff is generally knowledgeable about the beers and the service has always been good when I visit.

The food is typical pub grub. The Thirsty Dog chips are an interesting appetizer that is actually served in a dog bowl! The pulled pork sandwich is decent too.

All in all this is definitely worth a stop if you find yourself in the Dayton area.

Visited Thirsty Dog with hopsrus, TAR and cb. This appears to be a very popular restaurant/brewery located in the southern suburbs of Dayton. The bar area is huge and the tap selection was very nice. Got to try the exquisite Siberian Night Russian Imperial Stout. Service was good- two flat pints of Siberian Night were quickly replaced with better examples. Food is tasty and largely pubfare, some of which is even served in dog bowls! I have to return to try their other beers.

This brewpub is another of my popular haunts. They were part of a chain, with the other locations in Northern Ohio. The Centerville location is conveniently located with I-675 north of Dayton. They normally have 7 or 8 of their own beers on tap, 5 of which will be ales the rest lagers and one on pump. Hoppus Maximus, Balto, and Old Leghumper are always on tap, most of the rest are seasonals. The beer serviced at the Centerville location is brewed on site. I normally stick my head in the brewing area (I love the smell) and say hello to Eric the brewer. He will answer questions if you have them. I really like the pub food there, particularly the soups. My kids love to go to Thirsty Dog too(they get a big kick out of the food being served in dog bowls and love the bone shaped sugar cookie that comes with children’s meals).
