I brought a friend along to check out this place for the first time. As we entered, we notice the place is packed to the gills and we noticed the bar area was empty. Around this time, I suddenly looked around the pub and noticed no one; “NO ONE” was drinking a beer! Soda pops all around, but not a single beer. Hmmm… Sample glasses started to amass on the bar top: 4,5,6,7,8… I figured…. Well, one of these has to be good. We order food too… With 9 beers lines up in front of us, we started into the tasting. #1 Golden ale: Mop water with a tinge medicinal aftertaste. #2 Pale Ale: Mop Water with a rancid buttery note and a medicinal aftertaste! 3,4,5,6,7… All the same! Soapy mop water and medicinal! We looked at each other in disbelief! “OK! Funny, funny! Where’s the camera??? Who’s behind this?? My wife?” I said out loud. I suddenly felt embarrassed for the poor guy who owns the place! Maybe he doesn’t know the beer is THAT bad? Maybe he doesn’t know that Portland has a reputation to maintain? Then, I started getting mad! I couldn’t believe that this could be a mainstay and that someone, anyone (!) hasn’t told this place, that they’re beer is horrible and is an embarrassment to the entire Northwest brewing community! BTW, the Philly Sandwich was pretty damn good!

Don’t waist your time going here, the food is half assed, looks like a Subway inside (the fast food place not a transportation system.) They had four of their own beers on tap that all sucked, the service was pour. Theres too many other places in Portland to go to waist your time going here.

Small spot out in SE Portland/Milwaukie... easy to find, though. Inside is dineresque with a deli-type ordering counter and the beer off to the side. I got a sampler with my philly cheese steak and the beers were respectable. It’s a place that focuses more on the food, but it’s not as if they are pretentious. A simple place with good grub.

Out of the way, and in a strange part of town. Didn’t have the food, but it must be ok seeing how the place is still in business. Beer was ok but nothing special.

Interesting part of town. This has the appearance of just the standard lunch sandwich shop, almost corporate but a little more warm than that. The bar is right next to the front counter and has a nice selection of taps (12). The guy running the place looked like just your standard mid-20s guy working a sandwich place. Turned out that he's the brewer! I chatted it up with him about his beers. He's not used to having people come in and actually know things about his beers, so he was excited. The beers were interesting and pretty good. Not too bland or standard. Some good experiments that came out well (i.e. Jalapeno Ale, Apricot Brown, Cranberry, Ginger Weizen, etc). I'm glad I got to try this place.
