I probably should have known that they don’t make beer anymore but I didn’t. This was a let down, and not only because of the lack of house beer. It must have been Italian beer day or something but almost everything on tap looked unappetizing. Also, the place was packed. Standing room only. No thanks.

If there was somewhere to sit I might have stuck around. Also, I hear they do live music which could be fun, especially in this area.

This is definitely a higher end beer destination and although you can stop in for just a drink at one of two bars, or escape with a reasonable tap if you get a burger or a flatbread, the best way to include this place in your itinerary is to pencil it is as a higher end food destination with some very good beer. We ended up here as a last minute selection because it was close to where we were walking on a Saturday afternoon/evening. It was fairly empty when we got there close to 5:30 but started to fill up as the evening progressed - however since its such a huge place this was not an issue. There are some smaller barrels for two people but mostly there are large benches that if you don’t have a large enough group you have to share with other people (smallest bench I think is 6). There are two bars at the front, the windows are covered by curtains, and there are candles everywhere to provide mood lighting (pretty cool place). They have in house charcuterie complemented with a nice cheese and pickle selection along with tasty and somewhat high priced menu. However I will say that everything we tried, from duck perrogies to braised ribs and the burger were very good to delicious and the service was top notch. As for beer selection the focus is mostly on European with some things from Canada - not sure I saw anything from the US but could have been wrong. There was a fairly decent range of styles on tap and the bottle selection was decent and different from many other places within Philly. I’d say this is a worth a visit while in Philly, at the very least for some charcuterie and a beer, and if you want a higher end dinner then definitely come here.

Nicely located in a lively area of downtown Philly. This place sure is more trendy and classy than your average ratebeer craftbeer places. Crowd appears to be students “with a future” and young urban professionals. Despite the far from typical beer geek crowd, the beer selection is worth the detour. When I was there they had a special cask evening with a bunch of special casks. They apparently go out of their way to get special stuff in there. A welcome change of pace from the usual good beer places that are often neighbourhood bars and tavern-like places. Worth visiting.

This is a nice joint to visit for fine food and beverages in the heart of Philly. I enjoyed my meal, and received it promptly. The service was good and always available. The beer selection was varied and well-planned.

Visited June 20, 2013, for supper. Rustic style decor, but quite high class. Two bar, one for a beer and wine, one for cocktails. This as two floors, I was on first, sitting at a communal table, not the best comfort. The service was good, despite his limited knowledge of the beer (even after asking someone else). A very good beer list, but on tap, no info on what stye. One thing is sure, the food is very good. This is not my favorite, but maybe I would revisit!

Nice bar with a great vibe inside that is very conducive to drinking. The beer menu is broken up into different groupings and was decent on my visit. I had been hoping for some of the house beers but none were available. Seemed a little pricey and I did not eat as I had heard it was hit and miss. Nice place to stop for a quick beer but much better places around town.

The ambiance of this place is that of an old hunting tavern. Almost all candle lit with game mounted on every wall. Dark hardwood tables and random 1920’s antiques decorate this bar. The selection of beer has been waning of late since this used to be the place to find unique Scandnavian and English brews but it is still decent. The food is amazing and unique with various game and a great menu of pickles and cheese. The cocktails are very expensive for the quanitity, but not the quality. Some classic drinks that you will never see anywhere else. Everything is a little overpriced but the experience is completely worth it. Try to catch Drew Nugent when he’s there. Best stride piano player I’ve ever met.

This place is a mixed bag. I personally think the decor and whatever else is pretty nice, even though it is very pretentious and overdone. Everything is pretty expensive--the food and the beer. However, the food is quite good, and the beer selection is quite large. People here are rightfully complaining about the beer prices, but in honesty, you don’t get jacked any worse here than in Churchkey. I sat at the bar once, but yesterday, I sat at a table. The server knew nothing about beer. He switched around a bunch of our beer orders, and when I corrected them based on aroma, he was a bit indignant (trust me, I know how a rauchbier smells). The bottle list is impressive, albeit expensive, but I usually hang out with the drafts. This place is worth visiting, but there are better places out there in Philly and the world. The blood sausage with purple mashed potatoes was superb though. Pickled mushrooms were also excellent. Both of those were unfortunately kind of expensive.

Visited here a few weeks back with Amyliz4. Got there not too long after they opened. Very dimly lit place with cool and odd decorations all around. It was strange, but I really enjoyed the vibe. The service from the bartenders themselves was good, but I have to ding it because we were there until well after an hour past opening, and all the draft lines were still not ready. I’m not quite sure how that happens. Selection was nice, with plenty of (at the time) Terry’s beers to choose from. Food was quite good. A bit pricey all around, but not terrible for a city establishment. A nice place; I’d go back.
