52 Pretty good music with a focus on Quebec’s stuff. This would be a pretty good pub if only they had better beers, but as it stands, I’m not going there more than once a year. Cozy feel, atmosphere is calm, relaxed, neighborhoody. |
52 Dark, intimate cafe-like environment gets smokey very quickly in the evenings. Music also gets louder as it gets later. Service is at times excellent and other times disinterested or down-right annoyed (regardless of language). Generally have half a dozen or so of their own (average) brews on tap as well as a couple of guest taps that usually includes a few locals as well as one tap from La Barberie and one tap for Liefmans Raspberry. It’s a neighbourhood bar and the focus here is more on socializing and the beers though serviceable are not stellar. |
42 I really liked the quiet, Euro-cafe ambiance; only problem being that it was TOO quiet ('twas Saturday night). Nobody else was sitting in the basement area except Martin and I. Oh, and the beer wasn't very good, even the famous stout didn't really do much for me, the bitter was rather bland and the "IPA" Hip Hops was just not there at all. So, not so great, but as its just around the corner from Dieu du Ciel I may be back. And I echo Josh's comments about service; obvious that I didn't speak French, and I felt that the bartender then lost interest in being pleasant to me. |
56 Cozy and quiet when I was there, so I enjoyed their Ténébreuse stout. Make sure to check this place out if you are at Dieu du Ciel as they are very close to one another. |
52 I definitely prefer this place in the afternoon, when things are quiet. I had a nice game of chess here once with a buddy of mine over some jaw-dropping cask stout (the justifiably famous Ténébreuse). Other visits were at evening times and it was crowded, and I have to admit to feeling a little out of place as I was not out for a big party. Beaumont mentioned in his review of the men's room sink and he's right it is very cool. Service has also proven a little brisk - they've been downright rude when I've attempted to speak French. Future visits are expected to be stout-only affairs, and only if I've got the place to myself. |
50 A beer-drinkers alternative to a cafe - a fun, (sometimes) quiet, friendly brewpub with a small assortment of craft brews. Most of the beers I've tried have been thin but, to their advantage, this brewer doesn't shy away from trying different styles. |
