Traditional style pub, much like The Bow Bar, just a few minutes walk from The Hanging Bat. Plenty of ales on cask, a lot of them were not the usual ones you see elsewhere either, plus a couple of guest kegs from Fierce and Tiny Rebel. Beer in good condition. No music. I think I may have scored this higher if I hadn’t came straight from The Hanging Bat.

My overall favourite in town which also happened to be close to our hotel, so we came back several times. There were always new stuff to try out. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food was good. Very nice atmosphere and spacious, bright place.

Cloisters was heaving when we visited so it was difficult to get an idea of what it was like. We managed to find an area to stand near a column to avoid the worst of the crush and my impression was of a large open plan room a bit like a banking hall, with a spiral staircase leading downstairs. The beers list was reasonable. (Visited 2 February 2017).

Visited on a Saturday evening. in a small group of 5. We found standing room only. some interesting casks I had not seen elsewhere. no interaction with staff as Craig ordered. Ambiance inside was loud and crowded.

Visited on the August 11th of 2016. 2 beers tasted. Ambiance is quite good for a Pub with Food. Service was only OK... not the most friendly waitress on the area. Food was only OK but we only taste some snacks so I´m not gonna rate the Food.

(Visited Saturday 20/02/2016 on a late afternoon) a little bit of a trek if you are based centrally but well worth visiting here, and combining with the Hanging Bat. Very impressive venue aesthetically both from the outside and internally, was a little bit busy but speedy service getting our choice of beers. Service was good, selection very interesting, a good Scottish selection plus a keg of Kernel, stayed for a few beers and moved back centrally but well worth the visit. Recommended

Oh i cant believe ive not rated this. This is now my (work)Local. there a few lunchtimes every week. 9 taps 5 changing and 4 fixed (Stewart Holy grail, Tim Taylor Landlord, Cairngorm Tradewinds, deuchers IPA). Beer always top notch. Very friendly... This is my TOP equal choice of Edinburgh bar (along with the Bow Bar) the 5 Guest Taps Change frequently, through a wide and varied selection Since my original rate way back in 2008...this place has gone from strength to strength, they have removed Landlord, and Deuchers and put in a permanent highland tap, and Stewarts Pentland, they have replaced Guinness with Black Isle Porter and have an occasional range of interesting Keg beers. Children over 5 now allowed with food up till 7pm

Excellent beer pub, focusing mostly on cask (there were 8 cask and 2 keg offerings on my arrival). Stewart’s beers feature heavily but there are offerings from all over Scotland and their southern neighbour. Prices are generally reasonable with the odd outlier (bottles can be dearer than places in London). It is understandably quite popular, which results in it being hard to find a place to sit.

Medium sized pub, bit out of the way. Was quite busy both times I’ve visited. Very good selection of beers, some quality brews like Tiny Rebel and Summer Wine. Also decent number of local beers. Prices are good. Well worth visiting, wouldn’t mind spending an evening there.
