60 At the foot of the ramp leading to the railway station, this is a traditional but homely decorated public house occupying a corner at a busy road junction - and the road in front is pretty loud, especially as the half dozen people in here were all doing their on thing - and one was snoring! Seating is around its exterior walls with an almost 'L' shaped bar against the interior. Here three Flower Pots brews adorn it. There's also a sofa and fireplace beside the short end of the bar. It has wooden floors and creaky furniture. |
56 A traditional, rather small pub in wooden interiors and with a L-shaped servery offering four cask ales, regionally sourced. Decent service. Located next to the train station. (Visited with Finn 23.10.2019). |
56 Cozy small cornerpub with a handful beers. Mostly Flowerpots. Close to the Station. |
44 Used to love this pub but since the new owners have take over it’s just gone completely backwards. Used to have a great selection and really friendly staff, especially the guy that ran it. It’s now been taken over by Flowerpots Brewery and you just get 2-3 real ales. Bar staff were pretty unfriendly too. Basically they took a pub that was the best for miles and made it completely average. |
74 A couple of mins from the station, popped in on a Sunday afternoon. Had a good range of cask and keg beers on. Place wasn’t too busy, service was good. Beer in good condition and plenty to keep me interested.
Nice modern feel to the place and a good bottle list too. A worthwhile stop. |
100 Total bias as I own and run this bar since November 2011. Brew good beer?Contact Paul |
42 Best pub in Winchester beer-wise. Only 2 of 3 handpumps on but both in good condition, especially the Arbor, the other was local Flowerpots. Also several keg taps serving UK and foreign beers and an interesting selection of Belgian bottles, some more unusual ones. Friendly barman keen to let you try before you buy! Free wifi. Conveniently situated on the edge of main shopping area by the station. UPDATE - under new management I have to agree 100% with BeardedAvenger and will downrate this pub from my score of 84 in 2014 |

2 or 3 minutes walk up the ramp to the station.
Corner bar with friendly locals who were enquiring about my beer rating activities. 3 cask lines, one was from Flowerpots on my visit, the other (from memory) another Hampshire local micro.
Friendly service to the point the bar manager was asking me for reccomendations for his bottle list. Kernel were top of my picks for him and good to see that not only did he listen, but in John’s review from February he clearly acted!
Definate place to stop for a quick one (or two) before the train if you are doing a crawl in Winchester. |
72 A small corner pub near the railway station, recently done up - lots of scrubbed wood. Three handpubs immediately face you on entry, with some unusual ales for this part of the country; there’s also a few Belgian beers on tap and a short bottled list on a blackboard that includes Kernel. A friendly place, but prices are in line with its somewhat trendy appearance. |
