Visit on the tail end of a whirlwind Ottawa-and-environs brewery tour. Several beers on tap in the tasting room, incredibly knowledgeable and friendly fellow behind the bar familiar with many brewers from out east. Good discussion, excellent recommendations of other quality Ottawa locales. Quality beer, quality conversation. Very pleasant experience!
Squeezed in right before closing on a Friday night. I was expecting a taproom/bar/restaurant type set up so I was surprised when I endeared the tiny tasting room. Basic set up but damn fine beers are welcoming staff made for a great visit. They opened a production facility about 6-7 months ago where they now can beers and will build a bigger tasting room/bar/resto in the future and shut down the original brew space. I’m glad I got a chance to visit and hope to see their new space someday.
Visited many times to purchase bombers, growlers etc... Always a great selection of beers available and can easily try samples of them. Tasting bar a bit small and can become quite packed at times, but overall to be expected. Worth a visit!
Visited on September 2014 on a Friday afternoon. Small place close to the highway and no parking lot, so you need to find a place around, with park meters. We were almost alone in there, except 2 or 3 guys from the neighborhood coming for quick refills. They had four beers available on tap and 32oz growlers as well. We had free samplers of all four beers, the girl in place had good basis in French, so my "yes-no-toaster" friend was very pleased. By far one the best brewery on Eastern Ontario. Some of their products are now available in cans at the brewery and a few LCBO stores.
Simply a fantastic brewery. Don’t let my 86 point score underscore how good this place is - I’m pretty rigid in my point-giving. I like most everything about Beyond the Pale: the staff is both personable and knowledgeable, the Brewer makes his way to the front of house to meet people and chat, they are keen on being different, they are embedded into the community after a short 3.5 years, and their beer is really tasty. Only drawback could be that there isn’t a patio so as to lounge around on a hot day or to make it a biking destination - but it wasn’t hot when I visited here in March by car, so what am I complaining about? I’m glad to see that BtP is running at capacity and constantly changing it up. Thanks to Beaus and Steve Beauchesne for giving a helping hand in getting Shane oriented and established - it’s good to see the community supporting one another since my Ottawa departure in 2006. Congratulations to all of those involved.
Bar none, the best craft brewer in eastern Ontario. Great service every time you show up. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every beer I’ve tasted from these guys. Exceptional quality and very consistant. They have a limited supply on a weekly basis and run out quite frequently of the specialty brews later in the week. Only open from Thu-Sun... this could be improved. I think they’re in the process of expanding operations and changing locations to help address that... more to come i guess.
There’s an on-site room for tasters and growler purchases. You can’t actually purchase half or full pours to drink here but they will happily give tasters free of charge. I picked up a growler to go of a new seasonal and the beers are solid. They are opening a new larger facility so BtP are ones to keep an eye on.
Best craft brew in Ottawa! In the up-and-coming Hintonburg neighourhood, which is easily accessible by bus or car. Staff is always really friendly and helpful. Lots of tasters, good variety, and great swag to pick up too. On the pricier side, but completely worth it!
2013-XX. Small little spot, tasters, bottles and growlers available. Staff were friendly enough and seemed relatively knowledgable. Decent selection of their own beers. Neighbourhood is not particularly central. We stopped on the way into town in a car, I’m not sure how transit accessible or what else is in the neighbourhood. Perhaps I should explore more? Worth a stop if you are in town, but is more worth it if you are planning to buy bottles or growlers.
