Since the move closer to the railway station the selection has declined unfortunately. Hopefully gets back to its former shape, if not earlier, then when/if they move back to their original location. Quite small bottle selection, lots of taps, also real ale and real cider almost always available. And last but not least, free after work hot dog(s) on Mondays! ( haven´t got to try them yet though)

New re-rate: Before move to new place (at least temporarily) was the best place in Helsinki. Now much less selection, less rotation. Location is good close to Kaisla and soon to be open Sori Tap Room. Will visit again if moves back to old site.

Old rating:One of the places to get real ale. Usually they have also at least one Stadin Panimo brew on tap. This is one of the "fish restaurants" (Kalaravintolat) chain bar.
Re-rate: Nowadays quite nice tap selection with some Finnish micros - also rare ones. Usually few new ones on bottles too. Staff knows about beer and real ale is always in good condition. They also expanded the place and it is now more airy than before. Points up as this is certainly Top5 place in Helsinki.

This pub is very close to Kaisla, I got the English feeling as soon as I entered this one, dark interior, worn floorboards, MOR music at low levels, comfortable seating groups. 2 Finnish beers amongst the 12 taps, the rest was from EU.

OK, it’s a trifle gloomy. But the friendly vibe supersedes my first impressions. Feels more like a local haunt than, say, Kaisla or BrewDog. Rest assured however, you’ll receive a warm welcome. Selection isn’t quite equal to Helsinki’s best, but you’ll find about 12 taps with Finnish and international beer. Not all the taps are proper craft but hey ho. Anyway, worth giving a go at any rate.

First visited about 16 years ago and have been a number of times since. My favourite pub in Helsinki. The first time I went there with a couple of mates an extremely drunk older guy, who was covered in blood from a head gash, decided to sit with us. The bar staff apologised but I explained that I’d wanted to give my mates the full Finnish experience! The range of beers seems to have improved over the years, which probably reflects the Finnish beer scene. Last time I was there I was served by the guy who seemed to run the place who talked me through the Finnish beers. He was certainly friendlier to me than the drunk we saw him carry out when we were approaching. However for me that adds to the charm. Having referred to drunks I hav nevertheless spent a number of happy evenings there sinking some pints and playing scrabble. As to value, Helsinki prices now don’t seem too bad as you pay the same for craft beer in that London.

Less mainstream Anglo-imitative than when I visited it four years ago. Would still have given it a higher rating were it not for the incessant loud music that drowned out conversation. Mainly lower strength beers (to 5.5%) and very central.

An informal, British-like, brown pub in a pedestrian street at the entrance to the red mountain (Rödbergen) area of town. Medium sized pub split into different seating sections and with a patio outside. The tap menu is shown on a huge blackboard to the right of the main bar. Among the tap lines there are quite a lot of craft ales form Finnish breweries. Satisfying pop-rock music in the background with Blur, Cure and Clash. Posters on the walls of Motörhead, Anthrax, Slayer and so on underlining the rock attitude. Black Door promotes a good pub feel and should not be missed. A cozy and friendly place with attentive service offering different sample sizes of the pub’s draught beers. Good red wine for Frau Eva (visited on a Saturday afternoon, 26.09.2015).

Black Door was our first port of call in Helsinki due to the central location and rather good opening hours (in comparison to other bars in town). It has quite an authentic English pub style going on with a obvious focus on draught beer, including a couple of hand-pumps. Kegs were all from Finnish microbreweries and casks from the UK. Small, but decent selection of bottles. Service was friendly and attentive. Plenty of locals enjoying a beer or two during the day. A pretty pleasant place to consume some golden nectar.

(Visited March 2015) Nice pub, in old-fashioned brown wood. Quite a large place, with the bar to the right of the entrance, and drinking areas all around the bar. Service was friendly and efficient. Around 20 taps with a good mixtures of Finnish micros and imported beers, from around the world (mainly the traditional beer countries), of good quality. I visited on a Monday evening, so it was quite slow and far from crowded. Finnish ice-hockey play-offs on the TV. Definitely worth a visit, I’ll be back on a more busy evening.
