Updated Rating 2017: Ever since this place added the bar, there has been progressively less and less bottled beer available. Still some decent selection (including getting rarer beers), but it is getting more limited these days. Also, whenever I visit this place in the evening, it is always packed with customers from the bar area. A number of times, this has made browsing the beer selection quite difficult because people are standing in front of coolers and in front of the beer shelves. All in all, this place is still definitely a good one to check out, but there are some other places with better selection these days. Going to drop the score slightly.

Previous Rating 2014: It doesn’t look like it from the outside, but this is a nice little bottle shop. A lot of different single bottles offered at this location. While there are places around Charlotte that may have a larger selection of bottles, this place has some of the best quality beers.

Small dedicated free lot in the back. The place has a few taps at the newer bar, but nothing I wanted to try the times I have been here (Duckworth’s had better tap selections). The selection of bottles decreases every time I come here (I would suspect they do not have 350 different bottle labels here now), quality bottles are still available. Descent selection of locals (Wicked Weed, sometimes Westbrook Gose) and US (Cascade), pretty good selection of Belgians, and limited Germans. Pretty good prices. Helpful and pretty knowledgeable service. Spent quite some time looking over my list. Hope to come back. *2019 Rating. This place used to be a great bottle shop worthy of its rating. Now it is bar with a a selection that did not interest me. Some coolers for beer on the one side and a small shelf selection, I bought nothing.

Visited right before dinner on a Tuesday. Easy to find on a busy corner, with parking around the back on both sides. Nice open design to the store, bar is up front, beer around the side and in back. Draft beer is available, and there were a few folks hanging around socializing. The selection was solid, saw quite a few sought after local and national craft bottles. Service was friendly, good vibe to this place.

76 = ★★★ (Worth the visit, must for locals, and visitors with time)

I only use the total score, not the component parts.

A great place with a lot of history! I didn’t think it had as good selection as other bottle shops in the area, but it has a lot to offer. I was there when they had just started to prep the area to add taps! This is a must have in today’s industry. Very tight, to the point that some beers don’t have shelves for displaying. A must visit!

Looks can be deceiving, Brawleys is going through a renovation which in time will make it THE beer destination in Charlotte. Once you walk inside it is akin to walking into a secret stash of brews. The owner is about as knowledgeable as there is, tells you what is great, good, and not worth your time (depending on expertise and $$$ value). Single bottles aren’t well represented but their six packs are respectable (Bells, Founders, NoDa, etc.) but Brawleys has the rare and special bomber list covered. Epic, Stillwater, Bruery, Evil Twin, Stone, New Belgium, Lagunitas, etc. Solid list of imports, including Old Dubh, Rodenbacher, loads of sours, special age scotch ales and vintage barleywines. The place also specializes in carrying limited release and small batch local brews. Kegs of really heady stuff are available as well. Everything I found in the store was 3.7 rated or above, sans for new release beers with minimal ratings. If you are in the Charlotte area for any reason, please, do yourself a favor and check this place out. I’m from WV and am already planning a return trip soon.

Stopped by Brawley’s after reading reviews of it on Beeradvocate. I was in Charlotte for a couple of days and wanted a place to grab some of the local brews. The exterior is very deceiving and looks pretty run down. When you walk in the door though, it’s like walking into a craft beer oasis. The shop is on the smaller side but they manage to cram a pretty respectable amount of beer into their shop. Plenty of local goodies too which is why I stopped by in the first place. Their selection of other stuff seemed pretty solid too though. The guy (owner I’m guessing?) was super nice. Even recommended a place to grab some lunch in the area.
