88 Visited after work on a Wednesday. Located in a newer strip mall with a large Safeway and an interiror courtyard area where Capitol Beer and Tap is located. I parked on the Fair Oaks Blvd side of the building, and there seemed to be easier parking on that side. Three areas, narrow room with the bar and draft, narrow bottle shop, and a large patio area. Bar has 21 beers on draft, available as full or 5 oz pours. Selections with well chosen locals and rare national craft. Which I would have had time to have a beer, as the list was impressive. The bottle selection is smaller, but the quality is handpicked and crazy. I had not seen Heater Allen and 3 Fonteinen on shelves in a long while. Service was superb, great conversation and recommendations. 88 = **** (best in area, a must for locals and visitors) I only use the total score, not the component parts. |

88 Visited after RateBeer Best 2017. Small taproom and beer shop in a strip mall. Very nice selection of bottles/cans for take out, especially given the small space. Small bar with a decent amount of tables. Service was friendly and helpful in both the beer shop and bar. Good variety of beers with around 20 on draft, nice representation of local breweries. 4 oz pours and full pours available. No food but you can bring your own in or order delivery. Definitely a must stop if you’re in Sacramento or nearby. |

84 Stopped in here with friends, when visiting family who live nearby. It’s located in a strip mall. Has a front beer shop area, a bar, and an outside patio. 20+ beers on tap. Friendly, knowledgeable service. Ambiance is just ok. Overall the best beer place I’ve found in Sacramento. |
84 The fabled Capitol Beer & Tap Room. Well, I don’t know how storied it really is or if I’ve just read too many ratings from bhensonb and marcus.
I wasn’t quite expecting a strip mall location, but it works. Kind of tucked away in the middle of the center that it’s in and you would only really think to come here if you knew it existed or just happened to see the barely visible sign from the road. Small but well stocked bottleshop at the main entrance with sort of a dark, almost sports bar feel to the bar area. Twenty or so taps and all pretty good and/or interesting beer available. A handful of new ones for me, which was nice. They do taster pours and full pours (size varies) on everything. Some of the tasters can be pretty expensive. Well, all of them are at a low of $3, but paying $5 for 5 oz is kind of steep as well. Regardless, you have probably the best variety here of any place in town and likely the best quality of any place in town. Definitely the one place you should visit if you only have time for one when you’re in Sacramento. |
86 The place to go in Sacramento. 20 taps, mostly regional. A few killers as well, tough decisions to be made here, lots of top notch taps |
80 Really nice spot for beer lovers. Tap list was phenomenal - big beers, session beers, hoppy, dark, sour - you name it. Decent bottle selection too. |
64 This is the second time I have been to this place. Located in a strip mall. Parking sucks. Narrow parking spots. They actually have a very eclectic bottle selection. A few beers I have never seen before. Unfortunately, they are expensive as fuck! As for the taproom, it’s too dark. Service was a bit slow. 21 beers on tap, but none of them were overly appealing. Too many triple IPAs. Meh, I don’t get the hype surrounding this place. The Davis Beer Shoppe is better than this place, by a lot. |
84 Nice place tucked into a strip mall off a main road. Interior is really nice, you walk into the to-go beer shop and there is a bar and seating area around the corner. Great revolving tap list that is almost all local stuff with some other great gems, you can also open anything from the to-go area. Service from the owner was great, very knowledgeable of all the beers and overall a great guy. Value was decent on most beers including beers to-go. This place is the real deal, the owner is passionate about beer and it shows. There are some great new brewers popping up in the area and Capitol beer will probably be the place to try them all. |
