72 Super-relaxed, friendly ambiance. This is a well-worn pub that feel’s like it’s been around for ages. The staff and locals were all inviting, congenial. The selection will be a bit disappointing if you’re looking to drink local beer. The 12 or so taps are devoted to a geographically diverse set of options. My pint from 21st Amendment didn’t taste super fresh, but it was acceptable. The food’s pretty mediocre, but cheap. Overall, a great local, but not beer geek heaven. |
94 My favorite place to drink in my town. Small; dark; grungy; local and AWESOME. Great beer choices; the BEST tapped beer in RVA or most anywhere I have beer in east coast. Food is slightly above average bar fare. No TVS; funky not too loud music. Do your self a favor and arrive at 4:45 and see if Sean or James is tapping the brews. Sit at the bar or the back table; relax and people watch. Can’t be beat. |
82 Great little hole-in-the-wall style craft beer bar. They keep a rotating selection of draft and bottles including at least 1 cask at all times. Proper glassware, good food that compliments the beer, and a friendly environment go a long way to making this a great place to sit back and have some good beer with friends. No loud music and it’s small enough that it doesn’t get crowded to the point of not being able to hear yourself talk over everybody else. They also do live music which is a nice addition. |
88 I was the only one in the place on a Saturday night (Easter weekend) at 7:30, which made me a bit nervous. But the place filled up within 10 minutes, and Both the locals and the staff made me feel right at home. Tap list is very solid, bottle list is amll but well chosen. Sean is everything you would ever want in a bartender - friednly, attentive, great suggestions, impressive beer and systems knowledge, an absolute pleasure. A must-stop on any beer tour of Richmond. |
82 This was a birthday selection with my daughter and son. The french fries are extra special. A wider slection of beers then normal. The bartender was discussing the selections with a patron at the bar. I want to go back and sit and try other ales and beers. I had the 2007 Bigfoot and Victory Headwaters. Highly recommended for slection in a small bar. |
88 Very comfortable small spot.Great bartender, |
62 Interesting place with a really odd crowd. Staff has a rather gothic feel, but the people are nice and knowledgable. Service is sometimes a bit lacking, but overall it is worth visiting for the variety. |
86 Commercial Taphouse is a neighborhood place with its very own vibe which it sticks to. Can’t remember ever having a service problem. Food’s always decent. Prices decent- especially for the larger size beer servings. I think I need to come here more often. |
78 Finally got to stop here. Small place, very small. Neighborhood bar feel. Located in an older building, so expect that kind of ambience. Apparently there is an upstairs but I didn’t see it. I hear the food is cheap and good, but didn’t partake. Service was awesome. The usual bartender is a really cool guy. Good tap and bottle list. Prices were reasonable. Parking could be tricky. Nice place overall. |
82 Great spot to grab a pint. This was my first spot to get a quality beer when I moved to Richmond. Definitely worth a try. cheers |
