stopped in as part a bit to epic beer tour of Des Moines. Lovely old building friendlt staff cool looking mug club. the beers werenít that good or extensive but they charged my phone behind bar so i stayed for 3.
Nestled downtown in a great historic building, this place screams character. Service is great, they have lots of local taps and they know how to make you feel welcome. The food is good and well priced, the only problem with the place is the very safe and pedestrian beer.
I stopped in about noon on a Friday. Plenty of tables and bars stools available. Very nice looking interior with a small brewing operation tucked into the corner. 8 of their own beers on tap, 2 seasonals. Great service at the bar. 8 tasters was about $17 or so. The food was a little on the pricey side, I didnít eat. Pretty cool place, I would come here again when in town.
Wish the offerings matched the excellence of the ambiance of the great old building this is in. Itís really a pretty sweet spot, well laid out and everything inside. But the beers are mediocre and the food is just not very good.
Located in downtown Des Moines just a few blocks down from the capital building. The brewpub has a restaurant side that bright and cheery and a pub side that has a number of tvís. They had 8 on tap with the hefe being a pleasant surprise. They have a few bottles but theyíre mainly the BMC variety. The service was pleasant which is what Iíve come to expect in Iowa.
Knowledgable bar tenders, but they donít pay much attention to you when your glass gets empty. The beer is average to good, but nothing that would make me drive the hour and a half to Des Moines just to get it. IMO this is the second best brew pub option in the Des Moines area, the first being Rock Bottom, and I would rather go to El Bait Shop or Hessen Haus before here. If youíre in the area you may as well stop by for a flight and judge yourself.
