I love this place. Their beers are very malty, and are modeled on English ale styles (mild, bitter, brown ale). Very little hops to be found. The beers are almost all between 3.6% and 4.9% alcohol. The beers smell fantastic - candyish, sweet and malty. Their Kalifornia Kolsch is truly wonderful. 13 beers on tap. Tried 12 of them for $24. That’s a bargain. Super friendly bartenders - both of them. Charming decor. Didn’t try the food. If you like malty English beers without a lot of hops, this is your place!
Visited on a sunny afternoon after a pleasant walk through the hippy district. Attractive looking brewpub with a decent menu of Magnolia’s beers. The ones I tried ranged from okay to fairly good, without any bangers. Half pints and tasters available. Friendly service and good food made our little stay a pleasant one.
Nice place in the hippie district of SF. 12 taps of their own beer, 5 casks and a guest cider. Didn’t try the food, but it looked good. Beers are good quality though not through the roof. 9 of 12 had an ABV below 5%! Very prompt and friendly service
A really lovely brewpub in a funky district with excellent beer and food on offer. We had an afternoon session when visiting SF in 2012 and if not leaving town would definitely have been back for more. Excellent place!
Sunday evening, decent crowd, but not crowded. Sat at a big communal bar height table. Seems like a good local scene, lots of young cool people, a good amount of piercings, tattoos, and different colored hair, contrasted with young preppy groups. Certainly wide reaching appeal which definetely plays into this being a popular local hang out. The space itself is a great balance of dark old wood and soft speakeasy lighting. Staff was very friendly, great sense of humor. 12 beers on tap, and 5 on cask, though two of the casks were out when we went. Food options inluded a good bit of variety over a very succinct menu. Went with the house pickles which that night were some daikon greens, radish tops, and carrots. All tasty. Also grabbed the rarebit, and my wife got some wings. Also all good. Beers here were fine, all clean and well executed, though a couple were not really to my liking. Nothing really stood out, everything was average to a bit above. Good pub beer, but probably not destination beer.
