32 Visited in April 2019. Went there by bus, which I normally avoid, yet since Chemnitz is not exactly known for an abundance of beery places, it seemed like a worthwhile trip. Yet it wasn't. Popular but rather soulless German bierstube with a rather kitschy interior, rather disinterested service, rather mediocre food and surprisingly disappointing beer. Especially the latter pales when compared with the Ritterguts brand that is contract brewed at this place. The mediocre Classic Pils was their best offering, with some of the rest being literally drainpours. Not impressed. |
70 Nice place. Though located in the outskirts, it definitely worth of your visit - for sure best beer in town. All local beers are in great form - you get 6 on tap + 2 in bottles. All the light ones were my favorites along with fantastic Rot. |
80 Well worth the trek from the city centre. In August 2012 there were 5 beers on tap. Good quality beers and food (the Lammhaxe at 9 euros was amazingly good)
"Red Sun" at 3.4% was a Sommerbier, no fizz, mid brown, unfiltered.
Helles 4.2% - tiny bubbles gave it a creamy head, was a good thirst quencher with a hint of hops.
Classic Pilsener 4.8% filtered fizzy and fairly hoppy
Kellerbier 4.8% surprisingly fizzy unfiltered, hoppy and fruity.
Dunkles - more a proper schwarzbier, heavy, almost black and rich!
Finally I could not resist a bottle of "Premium" 5.5% very hoppy, lively when poured but hardly any gas when drinking it, delicious. |
