Visited on 22nd April 2017. Large single room with a few nooks and crannies, decor is a little minimalistic but has a modern feel to it. It was a little bit of a mess when we arrived but got settled in. Decent array of cask and keg beers from regional brewers plus a few more interesting offerings, Prices and service were decent enough. Probably the place you’ll pick up the most interesting beer in town but not the nicest pub.

Least favorite of the places I’ve visited in Lancaster. Had only 4 cask ales on mainly from Hawkshead, but chose one from York which was nothing special. Taps are very ordinary. The welcome from behind the bar was underwhelming, and the few people who were inside had clearly been ’on it’ for a long time and were being extremely loud. The fridge of cans and bottles redeems it somewhat - Mikkeller and BrewDog making up about half of what there was. Is very lacking in character - though not characters!

Lancaster’s self-appointed craft beer pub, the Tap House has six good local-ish real ales and seven taps, ranging from Hardknott and Hawkshead to Peroni. Bottle selection is brilliant and includes a couple of surprises. Atmosphere is a bit naff (a ’renovated’ pub) but the beer more than makes up for it.

Visited on Sunday 01/03/15 the Tap House is a centrally located venue that had perhaps half a dozen or so patrons during our 7 pm visit. Tall bench seating, clean and modern, the Tap House combines craft Keg and cask, 4 of each during my visit, allied to 40 or so bottles from the UK, Europe and the US. Good service and we’ll kept beer. My only criticism is that the keg beer could have come from further afield, it was all Hawkshead! They also need to be a touch more adventurous with the bottle selection, some ok to decent picks but to score higher for me there needs to be something a little more off piste in there! That said definitely one of the best bars in Lancaster.

This new pub is exactly what Lancaster needed. Stories of other pubs in Lancaster once at their greatness doesn’t compare to this new-age pub. Clearly, they are aware that there are beer drinkers who want to sample or drink regularly a wide selection of beer that is new. Off to the side of one of the main streets, its quiet at times and packed to the brim in others. The manager clearly tries to get the best brewers on tap and cask here as you will find Dark Star and Thornbridge here but not anywhere else I Lancaster. The bottle selection cycles and it is superb. The best part is that mostly the prices are very reasonable. I would guess a 15%-20% mark-up with deals if you take out. Other places that can be compared with in Lancaster and Manchester clearly have a larger mark-up than 20% making this pub super reasonable. The staff is young and keen and friendly to tell you or learn about their products. The one draw back is that it doesn’t serve food and I’m not sure that it should. Its too small of a space for food and I would worry that it couldn’t cycle the tables well enough. If it ever moved to a larger location, then it would be perfect. The main part of the bar is taken up with real ale pumps and naturally there is a decent selection - but other drinks are also available, it is not exclusive! There’s a good knowledge had by the bar staff if you want help choosing, The furnishings are a little more modern than your average pub of this type, but it’s still soft furnishings making it cosy enough.

Tucked away through an alleyway off the main pedestrian shopping street this is a real find for real ale fans. Really good selection of bottles and taps - nowhere else in Lanacster comes close. Bit pricey but you don’t feel ripped off when the qualiy of beer on offer is this high. A must visit on any night out in Lancaster!
