Visited for lunch with some beer xnobes, Thursday 04/02/16.
Old skool kind of brewpub - Iíd expected something more modern to be honest ... all brown and wood colours with an outside patio. Just one shitter for everyone to share - not good enough in this day and age! The place was fair busy for lunch with a mixed local crowd, service was prompt and bubbly although they forgot one part of my food order! Food was decent enough but nothing to get overly excited about. Best part of 20 beers on tap and tasting flights offered ... kind of split into 2 camps, the regular stuff and the one off sour/strong stuff. As some of the others have said, there were definitely some off notes in some of the beers - line cleaner kind of thang going down. Luckily I had already rated these beers so no big impact personally but obviously a poor show on home territory and should deservedly attract low rating scores. Overall Iíd certainly hit up Bear Republic again but the off beers, the dated decor, just the one toilet and the mistake with my food order all kind of chipped away at the score for me and overall it fell below my expectations.
Visited twice during my stay in California. Large classic brewpub setting with lots of classic brewpub food. Lots of beers on tap, all available in samplers with some brewpub exclusives. The quality of the beers is good, service was good as well. Definitely one of the top places in the area.
Came here for lunch in a fairly large group (about eight or so). The selection of beers is great, with tons of stuff available beyond the core range. One major gripe during my visit, however, was that several of the beers we had tasted like detergent or line cleaner. I even went up to the bar to get another pour of one, and right out of the tap it tasted wretched. So, that was quite disappointing. I had a burger and thought it was great. The service was attentive and enthusiastic - to say the least. The place itself is fairly large, with loads of seating, and a relatively laid-back ambiance. Overall, it was a good visit, but the poor condition of some of the beers definitely tainted the experience.
I had a somewhat frustrating experience here. The beer selection was pretty solid (15-20 BR beers were available, including some cool limited stuff), but several beers in the flight I sampled tasted like line washing-up liquid. I was surprised that such a good brewery could drop the ball at their flagship brewpub in such amateur fashion. While the server was happy to replace the beer without question, the episode dampened my experience a bit. Otherwise, the food was pretty decent and the portions were pretty damn massive. Service was pretty bubbly and friendly. Overall, Iím sure this place is usually great, but they were off their game during my lunchtime visit.
Drove up to Healdsburg - which turned out to be a nice town - to visit Bear Republic for lunch and beers. Really nice tap selection, with a core beer lineup, rotating lineup, and barrel-aged lineup on three separate menu pages. The food is okay, but nothing special. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. The place itself is comfortable and has a fun atmosphere. Pretty bad bathroom setup, with three urinals about 8 inches apart from each other and a toilet with no stall around it, all in a little room with a sink. Definitely worth a visit if youíre in the area, but didnít live up to the word of a few friends who told me about it in advance.
Some solid beers, with lots on draft available in flights, though some of the pours tasted a bit of washing up liquid, probably from not rinsing the glasses properly after washing (which is pretty unprofessional!). Food didnít live up to the hype as the meat on my cuban was pretty bland. Our server was nice and attentive and offered to pour us new samples when we remarked that some of them tasted off. Interiorís relaxed and spacious. Worth the trip. Payed something like $17 (including tips) for food and quite a few ticks, which is good value.
We felt a little dazed and confused the next morning after a long night of cheerful drinking at Russian River. So, if Hair of the Dog is a quick way to get back into travel mode, we decided to up the potable ante and start with Hair of the Bear. Just north of Santa Rosa, and a pretty 15 minute drive, Bear Republic is squished into the back of a fashionable corner of a lovely small town, and feel much more like a restaurant than the other sites weíve visited on this trip. But rest assured, the beer is there and good. We sat outside under the din of an air conditioner, but appreciated the shade on a hot Northern California day. The food was excellent, too, and valued cushioning against the beer weíd be throwing on our guts during the day. My girlfriend lavished the ahi tuna salad with praise, and I deeply appreciated the black and blue burger. We wished we had more time to explore the area, too, but breweries and rush hour deadline beckoned. But everything went smoothly here on a calm weekday lunchtime, with great service, great food, great beer and even a little mercy. No faults here.
Decent place. Beer list is very IPA heavy. Which is fine by me, but I generally prefer a little variety. Also, you canít mix and match for your own flights, they have pre-set ones which is a bummer. I didnít eat any food but it seemed good from what I saw of others getting. Decent, nothing blew my mind, but decent for sure.
It wasnít that easy to find with the address as it is inside of some sort of a mall. The city seems to be full of wine tasting shops so this is a nice beer oasis. Beers were tasty and the place quite nice. The toilet was very interesting as brokensail mentioned. When we were ready with the beers I wanted to buy a t-shirt. They had my size and thatís it... I was ready to pay. Then the drama began. The waitress tried to get my credit card from the bartender but she couldnít. There was some tension between them. She asked me to try to get my card back... which was a bit weird as she had the t-shirt I wanted to buy. Then the manager came to see whatís wrong. The waitress started to open up how hard it is to work with the guy behind the bar... very awkward... The manager took the shirt and went to the bartender and said something and soon I got my card back and paid. The bartender was very friendly. I donít know the reason for this bizarre episode but I was happy it was over.
