This is a huge pub in the middle of Houston, looks can be deceiving but it’s a beer hall en force and often packed to the gills. Waitering can get lost in the background because of so many people (and in fact they compted me a stout flight because they had forgotten about me for so long). They’ll do flights of your choice but not when it’s really busy, which is, like, often. So keep that in mind. Food was decent, filling. Lots of local brews on tap to try and free wi-fi, but don’t expect to be left alone in this place. It’s wall to wall people most of the time.

Visited the Flying Saucer on a busy Friday evening. The bar is well located in central Downtown, so I dared to walk there! Inside is pretty large and bustling. I sat at the bar, as I was travelling solo. They have a monster tap list of some 80 beers. Even though it’s not on the menu you should go for the "build your own" flights - which gives you 5 small pours of whatever you want. I mostly drank Texan sours and goses, which is just what I was looking for. I also had food, which was surprisingly good. Staff were attentive and more than happy to offer a sample before making your choice. I actually visited here for the first time about 8yrs ago and think the selection has greatly improved, in - line with the Texan beer scene. Remains a top pick in Houston.

Downtown in the dead downtown that is Houston. Didn’t expect much, but the Texas list was good and they had Lone Pint Yellow Rose, which was one I was looking for. This was the best craft beer place I found downtown.

Large and loud, with a broad but standard selection. A few noteworthy things on tap and nice food. Cool place.

Flying Saucer location in downtown Houston. Nice long bar with plenty of seating. Hipster vibe. I sat at the bar and had a couple of beers and an app. Service was prompt and friendly. Nice selection; well organized and laid out by style. Lots of local and regional beers on the list. Food was good. Worth visiting if you are staying in downtown Houston.

Finally got to check this place out. Cool atmosphere, open, large building, interesting decor. Menu is well managed, with an up to date tap list. Extensive taps and bottle list. Had some interesting bottles, nothing super rare but still impressive for Houston. Food was good, especially the queso fondue. Prices were decent, nothing too overpriced. Will be back.

Picture a TGI Fridays with 80 taps. Disappointingly few Texas or regional beers. Bartenders seem pretty unaware of what they have, from the specific beers to flavor profiles. The food is bar food. The volume is unnecessarily loud. Disappointing.

Big style pour house. Lots and lots of tap selection. $3 local texas pints.pushy service. Expensive flights. Some beers on should have been pulled so too many taps not tuning over.

Visited on Tuesday 21/05/13 around 9pm. Downtown location and packed to the rafters we managed to grab 2 seats together at the bar. Tap list was fine but no match when compared to the Hay Merchant, allied to the fact I’d visited the HM first which meant there were only a dozen or so new ticks for me having taken care of a lot of the TX stuff already there. I enquired about tasting flights but as per the Ginger Man they seemed to be predetermined choices. The 86 taps does however include quite a bit of filler. There was a pub quiz going on over one side of the venue. Ok place, doesn’t come close to the Hay Merchant but much better than the Ginger Man for me.
