74 Second floor, steel stair walk-up. Long, dark wood, booths, fridges, tvs, poor lighting, a touch too loud when only half empty. Wafting kitchen scents of both deep fried fish & ugly sewer endtrails as you look closer to the bathroom. Bartenders are nice but very young on my visit. One knew more about the beers, the other might not have liked me. Both left my water glass empty for too long. No half pour option, only $4-5 4oz or $8-10 13oz. Good to great tap list of interesting locals & long distance but still a few too many ipas.
The closest place I could walk to with any variety. For anything more, it's an Uber. There are better bars, but it really is all about location. |
86 Visited multiple times in March 2023, whilst over for Sales Kickoff with Boomi, the place is upstairs, nice long bar, neat printed menus for the beers, which are numerous. The selection was good with a mix of IPA, Stouts, Sours, the small pours are a good option but pretty pricey compared with the larger pours. Got to know the General Manager a bit, who was a really friendly and helpful chap. Food was also decent, best place in DC for beer that I went to. |
88 Old school high end beer list from across the country. Our server knew his stuff. Lots of styles not a lot of local stuff. Definitely worth a visit. |
82 Visited july 2019 during a very hot summer day. Hiding inside in the dark leather-clad interior for a few hours was very welcome indeed. Very nice selection, especially for a visitor to the area and I could see there were a few .rar things as well. I had no trouble ordering stuff at the bar. Nice place |
91 This is one of the best beer bars I've ever visited. Would call this the second best beer bar I've been to in the US (just behind Brouwers in Seattle). Torst would be on that shortlist too. More taps than I could count, a killer bottle list with breadth geographically and some cellared rarities if you feel like shelling out - but the draft list is spectacular enough where you might never notice the bottle list.
Four ounce pours of everything, bartenders who know their beer. It was a bit crowded when I arrived and a little tough to initially get the bartenders' attention, but once I got it service was excellent.
Stop wasting time and go here. Whoever said nothing gets done in Washington clearly didn't meet the people responsible for ChurchKey's beer selection. |
90 ChurchKey is a beer lovers' dream. This place has an incredible selection, including many rare and new beers, with a very strong, but not huge, draft collection and an unbelievable bottle list. The food is decent, but nothing special and the ambiance is great when the place isn't crowded (not often) and challenging when the place is packed. However, it should be on any bucket list. |
88 Upstairs from Birch & Barley, the draught list is identical - the food menu is different. Personally, I prefer ChurchKey. Incredible taplist, with 4 oz pours of anything available - usually $3-4.50++. Very friendly and helpful service. Simply one of the best US bars I've been to. |

88 Best beer bad in DC in my opinion. Helpful staff and great beer list, both tap and bottle. Lovely interior as well. |
94 A dark stair up to a long bar, still a little dim so we had a table by the window to the street. Classy bar, wood, leather, loads of bottles behind the bar and on the other wall. Not alot of people as we entered just after opening time at 5, but filled up over the hour or so we spent here. 50 some tap's, sorted in the meny by style so easy get a overview of whats on. Locals, beers from all over the us and some fine imports. Small 4oz pours starting at 3$ makes ticking alot less painfull than some places visited the last days. Good quality, great helpfull service with good knowlegde of whats on. Had a short look at the impressive bottle list, but didnt venture into that. Great place, we both would have loved to stay here alot longer just drinking beers. |
