“Comfortable, idiosyncratic one room local close to the town centre up a short bank. Rustic, ambience. Quiet when we went in early on a Saturday while the landlord/owner was setting up. Warm welcome, and a knowledgeable take on beer. Serves 6 changing ales, usually from Borders and North East Microbreweries. Had Tempest Long White Cloud on hand pull, which I'd not seen before, and it was an absolute treat. He also has an eclectic musical taste, entertaining us with an album of Ska versions of Nirvana that I can't for the life of me recall the name of. Can't remember if there was food beyond the usual bar snacks. Tried a few other bars in town, but this was our only destination after Alnwick Town v Rothbury FC, for a couple of pints before the train home. A great day out in which The Tanners played a leading role.“

“A large bar downstairs & a equally good sized restaurant upstairs. I was recommended to eat here by the barman at the Tanners Arms, and the food was very good & served quickly. Bar selection was fairly poor with just the one tapped ale I could see, but it was a new tick so I was happy. Service was also good“

“Good one room pub just a short walk from the town gate, serving well looked after cask ales. Friendly service & helpful in general. A interesting branched tree feature makes for a relaxing ambiance.“

“One-roomed pub, just off Alnwick high street. Interesting decor and eclectic (though unobtrusive) jukebox. Nice community feel, with bench seating on three sides. Six well-kept local real ales and a few kegs.“

“I was in search of Alnwick brewery products, but got much much more from the county. Service was helpful and selection was vast. They carried just about anything alcoholic you would want.“

56 /100 6 MARKET PLACE,
“Small shop on the marketplace of this very touristy castle town. Was a little disappointed by it if I'm honest - I'd got the impression it stocked loads of local food products as well as booze, and we'd hoped to stock up on nice local produce. However, it's very much just an off-licence with a small shelf of food offerings. The booze though is all as local as possible. Unfortunately, again the beer and brewery selection was smaller than I'd hoped (maybe about 30 bottles?). There are plenty of local gins though if you're after that sort of thing (the shop seemed more interested in spirits than beer). The person behind the till provided adequate but hardly enthusiastic service. Overall, I wasn't that impressed with the place (although it may have suffered from my high expectations); I'd say it wasn't worth going out of your way for, but if you're actually in Alnwick it's worth a look. On the plus side, I did meet the brewer from Alnwick brewery there whilst he was making a delivery, and he was a very friendly and enthusiastic chap, so I bought one of his beers. As a complete non-beery aside, whilst you're in Alnwick do make sure you take the time to wander down to the independent book shop in the former Alnwick railway station; a truly special experience even if the books are a little overpriced.“

“Quiet when I visited on a Wednesday mid-afternoon, and only 3 of the 6 taps were on. However 2 were local from Credence brewery. Food menu looked good value.“
