“Small bar linked to Atom Brewery of Hull, located just outside the main Beverley town centre area so easy to miss if wandering about. Nicely furnished with somewhat of a scandi influence. Seems a small space with a handful of tables downstairs, although there is an upstairs area and small outside seating which we took advantage of, although the bench was pretty uncomfortable. Expect a good amount of Atom beers on tap (from memory, around 8 I think) covering a wide range of styles, including some heavy hitters, plus maybe 5 or so from around the wider Yorkshire region (Northern Monk, Brew York etc..). Nice friendly feel about the place, dog friendly, and a good addition to the town.“

“Small micropub just off the main shopping area in a mini-courtyard. No standing at the bar and owner very much guiding you towards a seat on entering. Awaiting you on the table is an A4 sheet in a plastic wallet listing each cask and keg in a grid, with not only the beer that's on, but also the following three beers that will come on afterwards. Selection is decent, some interesting indie breweries, couple of keg, nice haze with a good Alvinne on keg and quite a few Alvinne and assorted Belgian bottles. A few ciders. Expected local cideries, but mostly Lilleys-style alco-pop and a Gwynt y Ddraig. Toilets are upstairs, next to an up-right office fan blowing on casks to keep them cool. Never seen that before. Overall it's worth a visit, but does seem a little rough around the edges.“

“Tiny pub with five casks. They had a Half Moon on as their local beer. Not the sort if place you want to spend your entire evening.“

“Nice delicasy store with three beer shelves. They had a good range of local beers, some craft beers and some imports as well. We walked away with five new local beers. Polite service. The rest of the store is worth a look as well.“

“Very atmospheric, exposed stone/brick, dark, coal fire etc, it really is like stepping back in time. Great selection of Samuel Smith. We didn't see anything ourselves, but apparently the locals will shout at you in you're caught on your phone / tech!“

“Visited 14/12/2018. A micropub which contains many of the features of a traditional pub and a great range of local ales on handpump and keg. The other customers were a friendly and inclusive bunch, my beers were served in good conditioned and the barman did his job well. Very good.“

“Visited 14/12/2018. I can only echo the two earlier reviews. This pub has a unique character, with its labyrinth of rooms, gas lights and coal fires. I ended up in a room which appeared to have been a kitchen in a previous life, with the range still being used to heat it. There is a more modern pool room to the rear. I was only charged £2.00 for my pint of OBB, so it must have been happy hour. Really worth seeking out.“

“Probably the best beer selection in any Beverley pub, concentrating on well-chosen better end local brewers, mainly on draught of one sort or another. A rambling place spread across two sides of an alleyway, near to the Minster in an interesting, characterful small market town.“

“When 'Beer in a Bottle' chucked in its empties a year or two back this wine merchant's and top end deli decided to take a punt in the world of better beers. It has exceeded expectations and the space taken up by beer is now almost matching the wine shelves. Well-known international classics - 3F Gueuze in Beverley? - are joined by Yorkshire's finest, with encouragement for some promising local brewers, plus some deliberate rarities pushing the price envelope. The best bread, cheese and wine in town too, with sound advice on offer.“

“The town's micropub has worn in well, making much of a two-level modern building on an old site. 5 cask ales generally include three local ones. There are a few craft beers in bottles and can too - still fairly rare in micropubs but an obviously sensible development. It's mostly about the chat though.“

“Has to be done. Bucket list. Sam Smiths OBB £ 2.06 a pint. Not £ 2.10 or even £ 2.05 but £ 2.06. All of their other beers too. An excuse to encamp for a weekend and tick. Seven rooms maybe? And corridors. Gaslight. Occasionally painted, over the years. Nothing repeats itself. A cultural icon often mistaken for mere pub. Clean, mind.“

“Visited April 2018. Like Bartlebier, I really enjoyed my visit to this ancient pub, which occupies both sides of a central passageway and has a large patio to the rear. There was a decent selection of local beers on both keg and hand pull, including several hoppy ones from the likes of Atom, and my meal of mushroom soup followed by beef sandwich was very good. Service was friendly and it was great to wander around the selection of old rooms. Well worth making an effort to visit.“

“Visited Brexit Ale Tour April 2017 - Traditional british pub aka second livng room with reliable, good value homecooked food and at least 5-6 real ale pumps with locals on, apart from the additional Greene King/Shepher’s Neame and international macros. My plate of food was very full, roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, gravy, peas & carrots and all - honest and tasty, and a sturdy backdrop for a halfpint or 5 of decent quality cask ale (caskalé). (did not test the Inn as fully booked)“

“Quick stop on the way to Hull, Magical Post-Brexit tour 2017. - Set in the centre of quaint Beverley not far from the minster. - Cozier and more mixed than expected for a newfangled "micropub", older locals enjoying new local and foreign tastes on an afternoon. Small handpicked selection of pumps, kegs and bottles with necessary subtitles if desired. Maybe could use a few traditional ales/bitters to complement and balance the new hop flavours, tart saisons and sweettooth milk stouts. Very fair pricing.“

“Magical April post-Brexit Tour 2017. Another hideous oversight in the RB places index is this 700-year old pub with low wood beams and maximum living room atmosphere: locals even came to haul us in when we were deliberating outside too long for their liking. Striking up a conversation with your neighbour is striking up your conversation with the whole pub. Lovely owners, made us tasty soup when the food bar was basically closed. 4ish pumps, 10 kegs and a "pin cask" (be it Greene King) Abbot in the cellar. I love playing halfpints in 2nd livingrooms like these. Belgium hardly does them anymore, Flanders is clinically degrentrifying itself outside from it and German pubs lack the interest in larger selections and mixed crowds social erotics...“

“Visited April 2017, Yorkshire tour. - Probably the most atmospheric pub I’ve ever had the pleasure to visit & dwell in, not just in the UK. Centrally located in the last pretty & quaint town before the giant Zeebrugge that is Hull. How is this not on the RB map? - Samuel Smith owned from the 12+ cask and tap handles down to the lemonade and the pork scratchings. The tripadvisor tags say it all in a nutshell: original gaslighting, multiple quirky rooms and parlours, nooks & crannies, popular with locals and passers-by alike + no wowmen&children allowed at the bar, area aka "a step back in time". The heat emanating from the gaslights truly is something special. Strike up conversation with relaxed locals in each new room and parlour. You could easily spend a full day in its maze of parlours, wile and read away the hours as you work your way through the taps by halfpints, until a quiz or reading comes along. The oak cask bitter is dispensed from actual oak and tastes lively and earthy, like the missing link between Zoigl and lambiek... Glad our B&B host pointed me here before continuing our misadventures down to Hull and back.“
