“Visited here after cycling 50 miles through the Welsh hinterlands on a stupidly hot muggy day, so I was in desperate need of cold beer by the time I made it back and Bottle & Barrel serviced my needs admirably, with a good line-up of around 12 taps, mostly Welsh and two double fridges of super cold cans and bottles, also mostly Welsh and English. Good location very near to the train station. Quite a nice feel inside with some comfortable sofas, but I chose to rest my weary legs out front where a number of bar stools and steel beer barrels occupied a few parking bays. Prices extremely reasonable, beer in excellent condition and even some welsh crisps to boot! Staff friendly and helpful. Best option in Aber for craft beer, hope it stays for a long time to come.“

“Deli with a snug, friendly restaurant behind. The food, service and atmosphere are excellent; I'd really recommend stopping here for tapas. As others have said, there's a dozen or so different bottles of Spanish beer & cider available, many of which I've not seen elsewhere in the UK. The same range is available in both the deli to take away, or in the restaurant to drink in. Prices for the beers are a little on the high side I would say, with the usual premium for drinking in the restaurant. Overall it's well worth a visit for the superb food and it's nice to have the choice of different beers whilst you're eating in - but it's probably not worth going out of your way purely for the beer selection here.“

“Back street public house towards the seafront and castle grounds with a traditional appearance, although a tad more modern in design on the inside. Serves a mix of cask and keg ales, although the cask options were sufficient enough on my fairly busy Thursday evening visit in March.“

“Railway station pub taking up the large front facing rooms of the terminus building next to the main road through the town. It's a Wetherspoon pub so expect the usual set of drinks from them in here, with the addition of a couple of Welsh craft cans in the fridge given the location. I found this pub to be student heavy, which is unsurprising on a visit in term time to a student town, struggling to get a seat on curry night which was popular with the academics. Maybe easier to traverse during classroom hours.“

“Interesting historic building in the quieter western part of the town down by the marina of sorts. This place is hotel too, they might be doing better with that as it was low-key when I visited, with a couple of ciders on its short row of pumps. I think the selection might be a bit hit and miss in this place, although during my 2018 visit I got the impression they were in a transition period so maybe it's got better since You come here though for the grandeur of the large open plan room with the long service area against the rear wall.“

“Interesting bar towards the north end of the promenade. Not a hotel guest, but the busy crowd in here on a Thursday night in March probably weren't either! There's a central service area in the ground floor bar with a decent row of ales and a pretty good selection of real ciders too, perhaps the best selection in the town. Enjoyed my out of season visit, not sure what the summer crowd is like though!“

“Shop unit delicatessen on the way to and close to the pier, there's only a few bottles in here, mostly from the Iberian peninsula, I noticed a prominent Barcelona brewer in the selection on my 2018 visit. These are certainly not too often seen in this part of the world so it does offer up something different.“

“I'd stop here for the food rather than the beer. Tapas was lovely. Service from both the waiters and shop staff was great. Small selection of beer and cider from Spain, that you probably won't see elsewhere. Worth popping in if you're in the town.“

“Visited on 26th June 2018. Strange place I thought. Corner building with a single bar room, pictures of old fishermen adorned the walls. Three hand-pulls, all dispensing cider, no cask ales. keg fonts were 'interesting' though and I picked up two new rates; a Pilsner from Bluestone being one.“

“Visited on a sunny Tuesday afternoon (26th June 2018). Pretty quiet customer wise on the day. Pool table on your right as you enter, wooden floor, one bar serves all areas. Six hand-pulls, one dispensing cider the five beers being from Tiny Rebel and Wye Valley. Keg offerings were 'craft' according to the guy behind the bar; three were from Lagunitas which was a surprise. Californian draft beers on the Welsh coast, well they are owned by Heineken I suppose. Anyway I liked the place and it had a pleasant vibe, even if there were only four other customers in the joint. The 'Craft' selection was £4:60 a pint which I thought a bit heavy, cask ales were £3:60 a pint. There seemed to be a few bottles and cans for sale, but didn't see a menu or card. Steve Wright in the Afternoon was the radio program of choice on my visit.“

“Visited on 26th June 2018. A very pleasant oasis on the Welsh coast, glad others had reviewed it, or we would never have gone in. Lovely Spanish Deli with a bar/eating room at the rear. I found four new Spanish beers among their selection of about ten different bottles, they also had four Spanish ciders along with a larger collection of wines. The food looked great, but we didn't buy anything, next time hopefully.“

“Visited on a warm, sunny afternoon: 25th July 2017. Sat outside on the picnic benches and had three different cask ales, all Welsh and in good order. Two beers on tap from Wye Valley alongside the Welsh hand-pulls, ciders on the back bar, so didn’t see what was available. Clean and tidy place throughout, toilets below and to the rear. Staff friendly and helpful. Nice relaxed vibe about the whole set up, liked it.“

“Pub situated near the castle. They have two cask ciders and four cask beer on offer. They had interesting selection of kegs, with some not commonly seen. Including Celt The Glade, Franciscan Well Chieftain IPA and a Czech pilsner amongst others such as Blue Moon. Will visit again next month no doubt.“

“I have noticed that this place sold Spanish beers in previous years. But thanks to minutemat found out they do Asturian ciders too. On entering found a range of half a dozen Spanish craft beer, half dozen Spanish Macro beers and half a dozen Spanish ciders. Picked up Five new ticks and will probably pick up another handful n my next visit. Prices are quite good too. The cheese, olives and cured meats are also great. Good place.“

“Although hidden, this is a cosy little pub close to the town centre. Expect a low ceiling, wooden beams, exposed stone walls, a pool table and 6music on the radio (classic Wildhearts came on during our brief visit). On cask was Wild Beer Co, Salopian and other regional, no craft on keg. A few interesting bottles from Tiny Rebel, Yeastie Boys and De Molen. A nice pleasant pub, probably my favourite in the town.“

“Bar that is part of a hotel situated near the Northerly end of the seafront, with about 6-7 picnic benches outside overlooking the sea, all full on this Monday afternoon. CAMRA pub of the year, but all that seemed to be on offer was a couple of Weetwood and a Mantle alongside the usual lager kegs, with no decent bottles either. Cider-heads will be interested in the sizeable Lilleys offerings, altho mostly the new fruity ones (lemon & lime, strawberry etc...) with Gwynt y Ddraig’s Black Dragon on draft. Worthy of a stop, but if pushed for time I’d probably head for the Wetherspoons or Ship & Castle.“

“First stop on our day out to Aber. This is a typical spoons at the main train station that seems to spread out in front of the actual platform itself, giving you a view of the trains coming into the station right in front of you (altho we didn’t see one train arrive in the hour we were there). Noteworthy beers are 4 Pen Lon Cottage bottles (the stock Ram stout was excellent), plus 4 regional cask and 4 national blands. Service seemed slow and terrible. Food arrived at the wrong table. The wrong beer was poured. That said, it seemed the only place in town with PenLon available, so for that reason it’s worth a stop.“

“Located along a narrow street just off the main promenade, this is a Spanish deli with a tapas restaurant and bar at the back. Popped in on the off-chance there might be an interesting bottle or two, and actually there happened to be 6-7 new Spanish ciders for me, including a couple of traditional ciders from small producers. Plus a few Spanish beers with just a few ratings on this site. The only Welsh offering was Gwynt y Ddraig Gold Medal. In a town with slim pickings in terms of good bottled beer to take out, this is worth checking out.“

“A really good pub in Aberystwyth. We had no idea about the place existance when we visited in August 2014 (now i see another review from that month). Some kind girl indicated us this place when asked about good beer places. We got there and found a cozy pub with warm atmosphere. Around 12 pumps with nice wells and british ales, quite traditional most of them, but also some modern ones. Strongly recommended.“

“Visited in August. Part of the railway station and ducked in to wait for rain to stop. 2 queues. 1 for beer and 1 for food. Despite a lot if staff service was awful. Choice limited to standard Spoons beer plus 1 Tour special from Brains. Convenient but 2 much better pubs in Aberystwyth. Typical of Spoons really. Lots of variation and on this visit well below average“

“Visited in early August. About 10 mins from station along the sea front. Sat in the wiindow watching the sea and the people on the patio battling with the breeze. 2 beers from Cader plus a Sadlers and Wye Valley on tap. All in good condition. Service friendly and efficient. Food was good too. Nice place to visit.“

“Situated on the High St around 10 mins from the station this is a large pub with probably the best choice of beers in Aberystwyth. Visited late on a Sat in early August, a couple of Wye Valley beers on tap, 2 guests and a couple of craft taps. Tried a Scarborough stout and in good nick as was the Tiny Rebel Boho. Nice pub, music at background level so you could chat. Worth a visit“

“Wetherspoons in train station. Wood paneling throughout. There seemed to be a 50/50 split between Welsh brewers and other UK beers. Which was good as I was looking for Welsh beers.“

“Like all Wetherspoon pubs this has the usual selection of guest ales, with the addition of VERY good, friendly staff and management. A great place to enjoy a good beer in Aberystwyth.“
