64 /100 Punch Bowl Inn (Bar) THE GREEN Sweeping views - it’s pretty. The beer is okay, four real ales on. It’s well known for the food and it’s not bad. |
72 /100 Punch Bowl Inn (Bar) THE GREEN Gorgeous, remote setting in the lake country. The Punch Bowl IS the town of Crosthwaite...the same parking lot is for the church and that is all there is except farmland and rolling hills. Striking, really. The Punch Bowl Inn is more of an inn/restaurant than a bar but they do have a proper bar area inside. You could just as easily send your parents here as a beer geek. It’s a bit upscale and subdued--not really barlike--but it’s also casual. Sort of a mountain lodge/retreat vibe. The beers were SO FRESH it was hard not to drink them all day. They were featuring brews from Barngates (Ambleside) which is very close. Everything was in tip-top condition. The food is pricey but good quality. Frites were as good as any I’ve had (twice cooked richly to perfection). |
