DENMARK HILL STATION HOUSE, WINDSOR WALK
“Visited on 12 February 2018. Located in the old Denmark Hill station building. Last time I visited here it was a Firkin pub, which shows just how long ago that was. It now has an airy, stripped out, bare boarded style - fairly modern in feel but by no means sterile. Four handpumps plus a dozen or so kegs, some with craft credentials. Two out of four cask beers were new for me, plus a couple of Thornbridge beers from keg, which was rather more than I was expecting. It seems they were hosting a Thornbridge "residency" from January to March 2018 which no doubt accounts for the four Thornbridge beers on offer. I don't know whether it will be followed by a similar arrangement for another brewery so I might have hit it at a better than normal time. Prices were reasonable and service was prompt. Not a bad place at all. There are better beer options in the Denmark Hill/Camberwell area - including Stormbird and a couple of Antic pubs - but they don't open until 4pm in the early part of the week, which was no good for me on this occasion so this place made a perfectly acceptable alternative.“

“Visited on 12 February 2018. Large and fairly civilized Spoonery with a quite pubby feel. Roadhouse-style architecture. Up the hill from Denmark Hill station and opposite Ruskin Park. Quite difficult to determine how many beers were on offer as the handpumps are in several banks on different parts of the bar wih some duplication. A couple of winners - from Sambrooks & Cronx - for me, which i was happy enough with. All cask beers £2.29 a pint. As usual, I'd forgotten to carry my CAMRA Spoons freebie vouchers with me. Service was attentive by Spoons standards - almost too attentive as the barmaid chose to serve me ahead of a local who had been waiting longer and took umbrage (not with me), despite me pointing out that he was next in line. Decent enough spot.“

“Located at Denmark Hill station. Medium to large sized bar, regular wooden interior. Not classic British, no tvs, not hipster industrial either. Quite small selection of beers. Visited on a friday afternoon, with the traditional friday afternoon drinks with a lot of local Kings College scientists. Ok bar, but definitely not one to go to and not really a craftbeer place. Didnt have the food, but there is some decent food available.“

“Just moved into the area and this place has become one of my very favourite Wetherspoons pubs. Pretty cool building in parts with some nice booths etc. Some decent offerings on cask and the prices can’t be beaten, £2 for a pint of Elland Celebration Porter, £1.99 for the Sixpoint cans etc. Most cask ale is no more than £2.20, incredible value in London. In terms of clientele and atmosphere, its pretty much what you’d expect from Spoons but for a decent, cheap beer it’s ace.“

“An amazing setting as part of Denmark Hill station. Disappointing selection though really, only two casks on on a Saturday night, one of which was London Pride. Keg line-up was unexciting, a couple of lagers and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. A couple of interesting bottles in the fridge (spotted something from Flying Dog). Food was really good, however. Not worth a special trip for beer fans but worth a look if you’re in the area for the venue alone.“

“It’s not the busiest of stations in London, so this is a great use for the large station house above the tracks at Denmark Hill station, which would otherwise be empty. The pub uses the buildings features well and it’s a very comfortable place to eat or drink with some leather sofas among the wooden tables and chairs. There’s a decent and well kept ale selection. Obviously this place is very handy if you are catching a train from here.“

“Large freestanding Wetherspoon in its own building surrounded by inner city London housing estates on the main road from Denmark Hill to Herne Hill. It has extensive grounds so there’s plenty of car parking and places to sit out if the weather allows. There’s no shortage of people using this place with a local feel throughout. There’s also no shortage of places to sit with several defined areas to sit on the ground floor that practically encircle the bar all on the ground floor. The decoration is comfortable with soft furnishings including a nice warm carpet and the usual uniform wooden tables. There’s no shortage of ale pumps. Spent a lot of time in here during my football years playing in the Morden & District League, as this was our pub of choice after Thursday night training!“

“Massive spoonies located on a hill near Denmark Hill train station. This place seems to be a hub for locals. On my visit, plenty of families were having meals together etc. There’s space for up to 14 different beers on cask. I think they only utilize most of their lines during periodic festivals. I had the choice of 5 middle-of-the-road bitters. There’s the usual lineup of beers available on keg and in bottles. I didn’t eat, but apparently the food was prepared with more care than usual. The value’s great. £2.09 for most cask beers. My barman had the memory of a goldfish ("Sorry, what did you ask for?"), so points off for service.“
