“Origineel ingerichte brewpub met grote sortering eigen bieren. Tevens mogelijk om iets te eten wat we niet gedaan hebben. Sfeer is gemoedelijk. Helaas net als overal in Noorwegen hoog prijsniveau.“

“I wasn't on a cruise. I thought would be from brewery up road, but own kit was very much in use. Useless staff (a recurring theme in Norway), did the five tasters for 150nok. Solid beers. Wish I would have visited the off sales section which did cans for 42nok to takeaway, they were more expensive in Vinomonopelet. Overheard that beer on cruise ship was much cheaper, but the quality here was good, so if you do dock here, well worth a visit. Well to be honest, unless you like trains, nout else to do in Flam.“

“What a great pub! And what a place. Good beer, lovely rare pub and a magic nature. What more can you ask for.
Nothing wrong then……hmmm. The nature view is often restricted by a hughe cruise ship. And you must be careful when you walk around this really small place. It is crowded with tourists.
You have to go here if you are in this area. But it is not a place you just go to for a beer and take the bus back home. It is far away from the known world.“

“Very nice brewpub in newly build old Norwegian stavkirke style. Quite busy as cruise ships dock just meters away. Very nice service, willing to expand on there beers. Got tour in facility. (There is bigger brewery just outside of town) and sampled some of their beers. Nice.“

“A beautiful brewpub in a beautiful place of Norway. But the selction was limited and the beers I would have liked to try was sold out/empty. The food was good, but not much more. Playing reggae music over the loudspeakers and none of the waiters speaking norwegian really bugs me when they are trying to be a authentic "viking place".“

“Really nice place in a tiny town in the end of a narrow Norwegian fjord. You come here to try out the Ægir beers, they had a couple I’ve never seen before on tap. They also sell bottles of beer under 4,7% next door if you want to bring your own, but I’m not sure if you could get anything wouldn’t find in a well stocked shop. Highly recommended to visit this place if you’re traveling through the area. Great service.“

“Lovely brewpub in the heart of Flåm. From the outside, it looks very viking-esque. From the inside, it’s quite dark with few windows (the only complaint I have - why not take advantage of the amazing scenery surrounding the place?), with a viking theme. Wooden tables and armchairs, with a fire in the middle. You can sample all ther draught beers (6 of them) for 162NOK and purchase bottles beers for onsite consumption (very pricy stuff). Service is very friendly and hospitable. We went in the off-season, when it was quite quiet, whereas we were told the place can get insanely busy during the summer. Worth a visit when visiting this amazing place.“

“Simply wonderful. Unique brewpub, viking style. Serves pretty much the full range of Ægir beers, but only 4-5 of them on tap. Restaurant upstairs has a rich menu - both creative and traditional, and well matched with the different Ægir beers. Can be crowded when the cruise ships are in town, and service can be at bit ’off’ sometimes. Tasting trays with their regular tap beers is popular. My suggestion that they also should offer tasting trays for the more ’adventurous’ did not go do down well w the bartender, and when I followed up w ordering a Lindisfarne it certainly did not break any ice. Still - had a smashing time there for my 50th Birthday, and you can tell that it’s quality when you get served your Lynchburg nitecap in just the right kind of snifter glass.“

“A schooling example for any Micro about to start: Get located in a place with huge amounts of tourists, build a beatiful brewpub; and the profit of the business is home safe. Excellent beer in a fabulous location. Do visit if you pass by Flåm! A place not to be missed.“

“What a lovely building! They have everything from the brewery. I drank a perfect India Pale ale before I had to catch the train back to Myrdahl. That said, guests are cruise tourists, but Ægir is still recommended strongly“

“Yes, this is a tourist’s brewpub. But if you’re in Flåm you’re almost certainly a tourist yourself, so you might as well try to enjoy your trip instead of complaining about how touristy everything is. The building is an attraction in it’s own right, built to look like a stavkirke on the outside with a spacious interior centered on a big fireplace. It’s pretty chill if there is no cruise ship in port, but a zoo if there is. A great place to wind down your evening. Bartender was friendly and helpful, but a little hard to get ahold of, even if the place is empty. They serve almost all the Ægir beers, mostly in bottles. The tap selection is limited mostly to their 4.7% beers, which seems a little backwards to me since you can buy those at the nearby grocery store or the attached bottleshop for half the price. You can get a flight of these mainline beers. Most of the beers are American styles so maybe not that exciting for American tourists, but it’s impressive how much flavor they can cram into 4.7%. There are some interesting things on the the bottle menu (very expensive) and they make their own Aquavit too. Fun for the whole family! You should also visit the production facility down the road, its very spiffy. “

“Visited together with yngwie and we started by getting a tour of the production brewery by Vegard. Which probably is the most beautiful craft brewery I have seen so far. Later we went down to the brewpub and shared a couple of beers round the fireplace. This place is worth visiting just to see that brewpub and it’s just a bonus that the beers are great too.“

“Gildehall i vikingstil med dragehoder og med en peis som rager høyt over taket. Trebenker med sitteunderlag i skinn. Norges tøffeste bryggeripub...? “

“Oh well, so here I am at what some people have described as the one of the most beautiful brewpub ever. While I agree that this place is one of a kind, large carved wooden chairs, central fireplace and other majestic stuff. But I found the whole thing a bit too much over-the-top with the Viking style atmosphere. This is a touristy pub and it designed to impress the tourists. And biggest problem is not a single window!!! You are next to the breathtaking Flåm fjord sitting in a pub with no window. After two pints we bought bottles from their bottle shop and went in a little park outside to drink the beers looking at the fjord. They had 7 of their own beers on tap, prices was US$12 for a 33cl and US$20 for a full pint (sounds absurd but these are decent prices for Norway). They do sampling trays. They have a separate door for the shop (bottles + other stuff) but they are only allowed to sell their beers 4.7% or less because apparently only government Vinmonopolet can sell beers above 4.7%. The pub offers hot food but we’re talking basic pub fare here with burger and a few other things. Not worth a detour for the pub, but worth a detour for the beautiful fjord where you can rent a bike or go kayaking.“

“My first place review! I got really excited when I set my foot in the tourist town Flåm, after a hard 3 day hike (with cabin stops). The brewery pub was magnificent, with a Viking styled interior and exterior, a cozy fireplace in the middle of the pub, wooden furniture and old Norse details to the walls and decorations. The staff was helpful, with helping us set up a tour, and smiled when we showed up for the umpteenth time there. Had a burger next door, that was surprisingly juicy since this was a major tourist-trappy place. Of course, the hotel, cafe, brew-pub and restaurant were all owned by one person and his wife. Me and me friend managed to book a "tour" with the brewery; we latched onto a business party of 27, since they don’t do individual "tours". I write "tours" with quote signs, since it was lacking: a cute Norwegian talked about the brewery process and Ægir for a few minutes, before we got our standard 5 samplers, and then another girl talked about the different beer profiles. And that was it. No tour of the the brewery/process, so I felt kind of robbed for the tour price of NOK 230 (since the sampler itself cost NOK 125, I think). Especially since all the info seemed superflous and readily available on the interwebz. I hope the management reads this and improves the tours, and make it more readily available to book for smaller groups, with more touring and more info! However, the small Viking-fan inside of me became allive and well by the general athmosphere of the place, to make up for some of the lack of varieties (which will probably increase after they step of the production scale) and the rather daft "tour"!“

“This brewpub is unique in the sense of its architecture and the beauty of the surrounding nature. Located right off the cruise ship dock, their concept is obviously geared primarily towards tourists, rather than beer geeks. In the building next to the pub is a nice restaurant with outdoor seating, offering a couple of their beers on tap as well. With the exception of the brewtanks, the interior of the pub made me think of an upscale ski chalet. The tap menu consisted of 5 different 4,7 % Ægir beers, of which the excellent IPA was my favourite. They offered some of their other beers in bottles as well, but they were neither on display, nor in a menu, and the otherwise very nice and helpful, newly hired bartender, was not quite up to speed about his inventory yet. Luckily one of the brewers showed up. He took some time off from his busy schedule doing installation work at their new bigger brewery. He gave us a tour of the facilities, as well as locating some great bottles. One of those was Lynchburg Natt Imperial Porter. World class! So was the price,in a negative sense... It takes some effort for most people to get to Flåm, but it is worth the trip!“

“Wonderful place. It looks like a mix of a stave church and a medieval drinking hall. Some of the furnishing is well past the top, and over into kitsch territory, but somehow it still works quite well. It’s peaceful and quiet, with lots of choices for seating, and the staff are friendly and helpful. You can probably get a tour by the brewer, too, if you ask nicely. The beers are really good, too. And the location is spectacular: at the bottom of a steep, narrow valley at the end of a fjord. The only problem is that it’s fairly remote. But if you want to see the fjords, this is the place to go. It’s fairly easy to get here, the scenery is stunning, and nowhere in the fjord country will offer anything similar beerwise. So if you plan to go to Western Norway at all, go here. Fits in well with Norway in a Nutshell, too.“

“This place scores higher on magnificent architecture and scenery than selection, but Ægir’s own beers are surely decent and well worth sampling(most of them are also available elsewhere). A tour of the brewery is available for groups.“

“A hidden gem in the Norwegian fjords. Set your self back so the time when the vikings ruled the northern shores of europe, here it’s build a hall in tribute to Ægir, the Jotne that ruled the sea. Well decorated both interior and exterior wise, this is also a modern state of the art brewery, when i visited they had 6 beers on tap, bottles and glasses to bring home. A must visit if you are in these parts of Norway. Did i say that the beers are among the best Norway has to offer?“

“A haven in the tourist machine of Flåm, Ægir is a wood, metal and stone decorated place with good beers on tap and a friendly staff. There’s also a shop allowing for bottled take-aways within the boundaries of Norwegian alcohol legislation (4,7 % and below).“

“Interesting place in the middle of a most scenic tourist area, and the building is in a unique, pseudo- neo-viking style - although not badly so. Although we visited in the middle of the tourist season, it was mostly empty in the evening, which gave it a eerie hotell-pub feeling. I suppose the guests are mostly tourists and the mood changes from evening to evening. The beers are generally great, and that is the biggest asset of the place. Is it not the most accessible pub in Norway, but well worth a visit if you’re in the area.“

“I visited Flåm during spring 2009. I drove all the way from Bryne, but my wife had to drive the last 9 km to our final destination in Aurland! This because of a short but fantastic visit at Ægir Brewpub. We had dinner at Furukroa Cafe and bought some bottles (about 6 euro each) and a T-shirt at the brewery shop. While my wife and children strolled around in Flåm, dad enjoyed a "plank" with 5 sample beer from the brewery. Brime Red Lager and IPA were new for me. I quickly ordered a 50 cl IPA...“

“I arrived in Flam early July just off its namesake railway. What a great surprise to find smack dab in the heart of the tourist center of town a brewpub! Unfortunately it was closed until just about the time that my boat was due to depart. Luckily next door was a resto that had several of their beers available on draft. Got to try some of those to my enormous enjoyment. And as luck would further have it, word got around to the brewmaster, Evan, that I was enjoying the beere and he personally stopped by my table and invited me for a little vilsit to the brewpub. Had a nice chat, a little swag, and a big smile. Maybe we’ll be able to have some of their beers in USA someday soon. I hope so! Quaffable brew.“

“Visiting this place during spring 2009 and must just say that I agree with Yngwie, this place has to be experienced personally to understand what is all about. The place (Flåm) is almost unbelievable beautiful and has a scenery that no photo can possibly justify. The brewpub is like something from a fairytale, filled with to many details to describe and actually really cosy at the same time, especially in the evening with the open fireplace. To be honest, no one will really expect to find really good beers at a place like this. With so much effort made to design the building with the decoration, yes even inside the brewery itself - you could hope to get decent beers at the best. They only serve their own beer (with exception of low alcohol beers) and just have to have something to suit 1 million tourists from everywhere. They do serve some kind and easy to like beer, but they are all well made beers. They show distinct what craft beer is all about without offending anyone. At the same time they have one of the best and hoppiest IPA that available in Norway. I also now that some other goodies for the hardcore beer enthusiast are just around the corner. The staff is friendly and seem to know what they are dealing with. Evan, the man himself seems to be everywhere all the time and is the friendliest and most patient person you could imagine. I really don’t know if it’s right for me to comment the food. They normally don’t serve food at the brewpub, but my visit was during a special arrangement with a multi-course beer dinner prepared by a gourmet chef, so this is not totally neutral. My only advice will be to visit Ægir whenever in Norway, no matter how far distance to travel whatsoever.“

“You might have seen pictures of the brewpub, but they don’t do justice to the place. It’s much, much nice than the pictures might suggest. I was lucky to visit the place in the springtime, where we had two really nice and sunny days, and what a sight! The mountains rising hundreds of meters from the fjord and the little place of Flåm, snow on the top, lots of waterfalls in the mountainsides, and the bottom of the valley green and blooming, not to forget the water on the fjord, blue, and without any signs of waves. Furukroa is a cafe and restaurant, with a big outdoor seating, as well as a hotel rooms on the first floor. In a buidling soon to open, 20 meters away, there will be another 42 hotel rooms. But the beauty in subject, Ægir Bryggeri, is situated in the middle of those two buildings. All three of them next to the water and railway, making them easy to find for the 1 million+ tourists finding it’s way to Flåm each summer. The brewery is built in a style reminiscent of a stave church, with dragon heads on the wooden roof-top, and stone-paved around the building. Inside, the first thing you see is a giant fireplace in the middle of the room, and in the back you see the bar, and then the brewery in shining copper and stainless steel. I ordered my first beer, and completely forgot to drink and use my camera, as I was sitting at my stool staring at all the details inside the bar. I was quite lucky to meet the brewer as well, and he gave me a tour of the brewery, and told me everything I wanted to know and even more. He is an American married to a Norwegian girl, and seems to have found his Paradise on earth. There’s no food served in the brewery, but the hotel breakfast I got in Furukroa was lovely. If you’re ever close to the place, you should pay a visit. No, sorry, you MUST pay a visit! (The beers are nice as well.)“
