68 /100 PONTÃO DE SÃO LÁZARO Good place. They brewing their own 10+ beers. Unfortunatelly not all are available, but it is possible to find something really nice to drink. |
60 /100 PONTÃO DE SÃO LÁZARO Visited with Auntie Sue and Margie on 4th December 2023. Touristy set up on the seafront by the cruise ship terminals. Clean, modern and an 'end of the pier' feel to it, so very holiday-ish. It's Germanic in design, as were the beer styles, and the staff dress accordingly, kind of weird really. I had a flight, 5 of their beers, nothing wrong with them at all to be honest. I would have stayed longer but our ship was about to sail. |
80 /100 R. DIREITA 37 Nice place in the center of Funchal. Good Mexican food and 8 beers on tap. There are some bottles in the fridge but I didn't check them, so cannot say how many of them. |
72 /100 PONTÃO DE SÃO LÁZARO Very nicely situated next to the big cruiseliners. Place is somewhat a tourist trap, but they do have an excellent selection of their own beers. They do two fixed flights of 5 that overlap, so do of of them and order the rest as singles. They had five cask beers that had aged and 12 others of their own plus some guest brews too. Definately worth a visit. |
78 /100 R. DO CONDE DE CANAVIAL 22 Very good place with an excellent fridge and 8 taps of local Portuguese craft beer. Nice friendly service with free snacks served. |
96 /100 R. DO CONDE DE CANAVIAL 22 Still the best (only?)place in Funchal to try Portuguese craft beer. They now have 8 taps with a mix of styles. Large cooler of bottle/can choices. They only carry products from Portugal. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff (?owner and wife). All of the other restaurants that we visited only had Coral lager/stout for draft choices. Very small with may 6 or 7 tables. They serve a limited selection of food, but only Mon to Fri. |
66 /100 PONTÃO DE SÃO LÁZARO Visited in 2017 - Set on the marina in Funchal, I visited mainly to try the one beer they brew. The beer was very good & German in appearance, as is the place in general. A fine location to sit outside on a warm sunny spring day with good service. It's a pity they only have the Coral range of beers as a back up to there own one. |
70 /100 R.LATINO COELHO 39 um bom lugar para experimentar as cervejas coral que nao sao vendidade em mais nenhum lugar |
78 /100 R. DO CONDE DE CANAVIAL 22 The best (and pretty much the only) place in Funchal to obtain craft beer. The rest of the bars/cafes hold at most 4-5 bottles if they even have any, but not this place. 6 taps and a couple dozen bottles, all Portugese and luckily not just your ordinary IPA/stout/pale ale; but some of the more interesting stuff too. The owner knows his beer and is always very helpful, got some awesome recommendations from him. If you’re after a true craft beer bar in Funchal, look no further. |
80 /100 R. DO CONDE DE CANAVIAL 22 Definitively the best place for craft beer in Madeira at the moment. 100% Portuguese craft beer plus one tap with Heineken. 5 or 6 craft beers on tap and something between 40-50 bottle beers in the fridge. There were also some extra bottles in the cellar that just appears when the owner noticed my interest. Decent and slightly different food from the rest of restaurants at the island and I also appreciated the free snacks that just seems to appear frequently during my stay. This is not a world class beer bar, but considering the beer selection everywhere else in Madeira this is pretty unique and this must be taken in consideration for my score. A welcoming break from the touristic spots and highly recommended for the beer geek. |
80 /100 PONTÃO DE SÃO LÁZARO A vista é fantastica, e tem novas cervejas e varias crafts portuguesas. Vale a pena passar por la. |
66 /100 Museu Café (Restaurant) PRAÇA DO MUNICÍPIO 85 Um dos poucos lugares onde se pode encontrar craft no funchal |
52 /100 PONTÃO DE SÃO LÁZARO Always try to go to a local place or 2 when around a new town. Beerhouse Madeira is not a place to go for the draft beers imo. The in house ale is bland and uninteresting and the taster menu i had was not something to run for with Mainly Beer Lab Madeira by Coral beers. Try some of the bottle options instead if available. There are some decent Portoguise craft beer breweries like Dois Corvos, Letra and Oitava Colina on the beermenu. Didnt try the food, but it looked nice. |
92 /100 R. DO CONDE DE CANAVIAL 22 It was via ratebeer.com that we found this gem. Excellent range of Portuguese craft beer on tap & bottles & lovely Portuguese wines for the non beer drinker. Duarte & his wife & staff were welcoming to visiting tourists as well as servicing a steady stream of locals arriving for lunch. Simple sandwiches, salads & dish of the day all available at modest cost. Time to explain the beer range was no problem with suggestions and shared tastings. The Red Zeppelin was to my taste & the Born in the IPA very good both on tap. The 8a Colina Double IPA bottle very drinkable. Excellent value all round. Check opening times as not on the tourist paths. |
78 /100 R. DO CONDE DE CANAVIAL 22 Best beer place in Funchal as far as I know. 5 taps and around 30 bottles. One of the taps is Heineken, the rest is portuguese craft beer of good to great quality. The place itself is rather doll (clinic) but has a nice vibe to it thanks to the many locals coming in for a Heineken or a coffee. Homemade tapas is to be had but unfortunately I didn't have time to try. The owners are absolutely fantastic and entusiastic as rarely seen. When Duarte figured that I was very interested in craft beer, he took me to the basement to show me his special bottles. Better and nicer service is very hard to come by. Highly recommend |
54 /100 Hole in One (Bar) ESTRADA MONUMENTAL 238 Since last year the have expanded their selection a bit: They now have two beers from Madeira Beer Lab (owned by the only brewery on the Island), which are not very good. Also three bottles of craft beer from Faustino. It's slowly moving in the right direction!
Old Review from November 2016:
I added this place only because this island is so beer forsaken that even a pint of Bishops Finger is interesting. Other beers available is Spaten, Löwenbräu, Stella, the dark Coral, Franziskaner etc. At my visit they even had two oktoberfestbier. Service is really nice and very awake. The place has a very large outdoor area. This bar wouldn’t be in Top 200 in Copenhagen but on this island, I think it deserves a ratebeer listing |
68 /100 Museu Café (Restaurant) PRAÇA DO MUNICÍPIO 85 Small cafe connected to a museum on a nice square in the center of the town. A bit boring place but the service is great. 2 taps with Coral but some 10 bottles with craft beer from the portuguese mainland (Dois Corvos and Oitava Colina). The food menu is small dishes and sandwiches. Good but not great. |
Service super sympa |
54 /100 PONTÃO DE SÃO LÁZARO Brewpub located on the seafront in Funchal. Decor is kind of a mix between a seafront cafe and a German beer-hall, rather chilly when we were there. Service friendly and efficient. As others have said, they only brew one beer themselves, some kind of rye beer (no idea if it is a lager or an ale) that tasted a bit like a cross between a pilsner and a hefeweizen. Also have a couple of Coral beers. Didn’t eat but there is a big menu and the food looked OK. Prices decent. Normally not worth a mention, again as others have said but worth a look if the only other option is Coral lager everywhere else on the island. |
46 /100 PONTÃO DE SÃO LÁZARO Brews one beer themselves. Alledgely a rye pilsener but it doesn’t really taste of anything. Other beers available was Coral and Carlsberg and that’s it. They have a gigantic food menu and the food is certainly decent. Service is nice as is the location on the harbour. A tick is a tick... |
52 /100 PONTÃO DE SÃO LÁZARO Ok bar with three beers on during my visit, an amber that was a bit sweet and cloying, a wheat that I didn’t try and an ’apple’ beer that was surprisingly refreshing and not too bad ( but not amazing) couldn’t see any brewing kit unless its well hidden below. Ok service, great views. |
48 /100 PONTÃO DE SÃO LÁZARO Offers one own beer plus some beer from local large brewery. Feels more like a restaurant than a pub - people come there to eat lunch or drink wine or drinks. Nothing spectacular, but this place has the best beer on tap on the island and the view you can enjoy is spectacular. |
48 /100 PONTÃO DE SÃO LÁZARO Difficult one. At the time of my visit (Jun 2014) they were not brewing on site because of construction works. They plan to resume in 2015. However they have their house beer that is currently brewed with their recipe by Coral (biggest local producer) and is a great improvement over standard beers you can find in Madeira. I totally agree that this is the best place for beer on this island. Food was great as a beer companion. Add in a perfect location by Marina and you have a real good place. |
62 /100 PONTÃO DE SÃO LÁZARO Probably the only place on Madeira to serve decent beer. Their regular brew is very nice and refreshing but not exceptional. Infinitely better, however, than anything else on the island. Good food and nicely situated. |
40 /100 PONTÃO DE SÃO LÁZARO Nice place next to Marina. However lots of noise due to reconstruction works at the harbour front.
Their own beer is nice and so is the food. Drinks come with typical yellow beans flavored with garlic. |
46 /100 PONTÃO DE SÃO LÁZARO If you are sick of drinking Madeira wine and you are thinking about having a beer probably you’ll find yourself in this place! But don’t expect too much... |
46 /100 PONTÃO DE SÃO LÁZARO On the docks at the harbour of Funchal is this brewpub located. It’s more a restaurant than a brewpud. The brew equipment is in the back. They brew 1 beer of their own. The also have Coral beer. As a beerlover you have to go there if you are on Madeira. But let it not been the main reason for to visit Madeira. |
52 /100 PONTÃO DE SÃO LÁZARO Went here three times on my stay on Madeira. The only beer brewed on premises is a cloudy rye beer that is unspectacular but pleasant and good with food. It was available to take away. The other beers are Coral Lager and Coral Tonica, both on draught. The food was good, especially enjoyed the lobster soup which also had shrimp and other goodies in it. The service was fine except on a Saturday night when they had fireworks over the harbor and the place was jam packed. Great location, on a jetty over the marina. |
36 /100 PONTÃO DE SÃO LÁZARO OK, you have landed in Madeira. If rated relative to other beer bars on this island, it would be a straight home-run, no doubt. Relative to other beer places in the world the result is different, though. The location is one of the best in town, in the middle of the yacht harbour. A nice terrasse, too. Service varies, but is not the most committed. Do not expect any craft beer commitment. Selection is limited to one beer brewed on the premises and a couple of Heineken subsidiary brews on tap. The food is quite good, though slightly on the pricey side for Madeira. The place to visit in Funchal, but you would not visit Funchal for it. |
