| 58 /100 Focacceria Zena Zuena (Restaurant) VIA CESAREA, 84/86 R. Small selction af italian beers. 4 taps and apr 15 bottles. Not a place to travel for but a nice waterhole if you happens to pass it. |
| 80 /100 Scurreria Beer & Bagel (Bar) VIA DI SCURRERIA 22R Small top-class bar in city center. Great service. Bartender knows his stuff. 14 taps (12 new for me) of very high quality. A place to get beers from several Ligurian breweries. |
| 94 /100 Public House Brewery (Bar) VIA DEI GIUSTINIANI 56R Ongelooflijk hoeveel bierpassie hier aanwezig is!
Spijtig. |
| 48 /100 Enoteca Bonanni (Beer Store) VIA SAN VINCENZO 60R Visited 25/7 2024. Classic Wine and Spirits store in the center of Genoa with a polite and helpful fellow in charge of the store. Not a very big beer selection and not anything local. Some Belgian Beers (Chimay, Lupulus and Dupont) and some odd Irish bottles. Bought some Venetian Beer (San Gabriel) and a good bottle of Grappa. |
| 76 /100 VIA FEGINO 3/U Very cozy small taproom almost inside the brewery. 6 taps and 12 bottles. Very friendly service. Beers in perfect condision.
The brewry is placed outside city center in an old brewery-plant (Heineken?) at an industriel area, so it would be difficult to walk to the place, but it is really worth visiting. |
| 74 /100 Kamun Lab Pub (Bar) VIA DI SAN BERNARDO 53 R Dark small bar in the old city center. Friendly service. 15 taps with own beers. Had a sampler (4) and all beers were in good condition. One of the great bars in genova, but no local beers. Kamun is from Piemonte. |
| 90 /100 Scurreria Beer & Bagel (Bar) VIA DI SCURRERIA 22R Very nice place. Had a 2h stopover in Genova and with the walking from the train station and some buffer i only managed to stay half an hour. But still totally worth it. I asked for something local and hoppy and the guy was like "well this is from 200km away, is it local enough?". So they really seem to know what they are selling. I also some some Franconian beers on tap which is a rare sight even in Germany. Apart from that the fridges are stacked with lambic (and other stuff) and there are 2 handpumps. I believe you will find anything you could be looking for here. Prices are fair (3-6€ for the taps depending on size) and i also got a beer to go for the walk back to the train station. Music (Rock) and vibe also great. There is really nothing bad to say about this place. |
| 74 /100 Fitz Birrificio Genovese (Bar) VIA DELLE GRAZIE 56/R Located a stone's throw from the ancient port. The entrance is on the inner street of the old city, but the bar windows can already be seen from the large square of the ancient port. On the ground floor, the laboratory and brew kit can be seen from the windows. The upper floor has a nice view the pub. A good vibe with lot's of good music (of course rock; Deep Purple, Jettro Tull etc) which makes the stay even more pleasant. They have 8 of their own beers on tap and there is no shortage of foreign beers. They have lots of retro video games and table football and very popular. The menu is good all local fresh well cooked food. Very friendly and very nice staff! |
| 60 /100 VIA MURA DELLE GRAZIE 9R A no frills micro brewery with a tap, they have 3 cask beer engines and a selection of bottles. They do tastings and interesting guided tours but be sure to contact them before to confirm. The Mac Kenny brewery started in 2008 from the passion for the Anglo-Saxon world, they brew artisanal production inspired by England, with ruby and straw-coloured beers, soft and fruity, to Scotland with Torbate beers and to Ireland with dark beers with a toasted finish and many more ... |
| 92 /100 VIA FEGINO 3/U Maltus Faber brewery opened in 2007 in a nearby building and moved to this location in 2016. It occupies the front part of a huge salmon and white colored multistory building which was itself a massive brewery from 1906. The old brewery was later purchased by Heineken and then eventually closed. The new Maltus Faber brewery operating here specializes in a great variety of international style ales. To visit, drive into the center of a complex of buildings and you’ll find a few dedicated parking spaces for the brewery. Inside you’ll be greeted by an employee and offered a sample of their beer. The open tasting room is not a large place, with only a couple wooden tables and a small walkup tasting bar. They have 6 beers on tap which they are happy to share, and often have opened bottles of several other varieties to pour samples. The brewery staff is very welcoming and cheerful, and they are happy to give a quick tour into the brewery if they are not busy with bottle sales. The tasting area is partitioned by a chain, behind which are tall racks of brewing supplies. The room has a brown concrete floor and very high ceiling, and the brewing equipment is back on the left. Naturally there is a bottle shop in the brewery, with black bookcases of beer in large and small individual bottles, as well as packs. |
| 66 /100 Eataly Genova (Grocery Store) CALATA CATTANEO, 15 Located in old port area near the aquarium. visited June 2019. smaller than the Milan location, but still a great selection of food and small beer selection. Also a great place for a quick meal with cabinet service. Please, bright space. |
| 78 /100 Beershop Maddalena (Beer Store) VIA DELLA MADDALENA, 50R visited in apr 2019
in the old genoa's heart a fruit and veg shop which sell beers
unique and strange but not to miss place |
| 72 /100 Beershop Maddalena (Beer Store) VIA DELLA MADDALENA, 50R Odwiedzone jako Beershop Maddalena. Tak naprawde jedyny tak dobrze zaopatrzony sklep z piwem kraftowym w okolicy. Jednocześnie sklep spożywczy. |
| 72 /100 Beershop Maddalena (Beer Store) VIA DELLA MADDALENA, 50R Nice shop in the old center of Genova. Fruits, vegetables, wine and... beer! A lot of good products, mostly belgian and french ones, some US, UK, and not so much italians, but good selection. |
| 88 /100 La Coccagna (Restaurant) VICO DI COCCAGNA 17R Niewielkie, klimatyczne miejsce, z fajnym jedzeniem i zajebistymi piwami Maltus Faber. Polecam |
| 94 /100 Scurreria Beer & Bagel (Bar) VIA DI SCURRERIA 22R Jedno z fajniejszych miejsc w jakich bylem. Swietne burgery, solidna selekcja piw i nawet firmowa szklanke dostalem :) |
| 90 /100 Kamun Lab Pub (Bar) VIA DI SAN BERNARDO 53 R Miejsce niewielkie ale z piwna dusza, ogarnietym menagerem i fajna selekcja piw. |
| 68 /100 Pasta Street (Restaurant) PIAZZA DELLA MERIDIANA, 12R Small pasta place with a fine selection of bottles from CRAK, Rurale and a few more. The pasta is excellent and the service really nice and prompt, and he knows about the beers too. Prices are a bit steep for this city |
| 62 /100 La Coccagna (Restaurant) VICO DI COCCAGNA 17R Bar and restaurant with 9 taps all from the local Maltus Faber brewery, which makes decent but not great beer. The style is Belgian inspired. The waitress was very busy but did all she could to keep up. The bad grade for service is wrt the Italian opening hours: the website and sign at the door say the open at 5PM, but they really open at 6PM and oh btw, the kitchen doesn't open until 7. F! Decent prices |
| 72 /100 Jalapeño Genova (Bar) VIA DELLA MADDALENA 52R Small worn out bar in the not so nice part of Genovas old town. 8 taps, 1 cask with good Italian craft beer. Service was friendly. Didn't try the food. Decent prices |
| 80 /100 Kamun Lab Pub (Bar) VIA DI SAN BERNARDO 53 R A small pub with 10 taps and 3 casks, almost all of them from the Kamun brewery. The beer is of very good quality and of various styles. The bartender was very friendly and knew what he was talking about. Fair prices |
| 86 /100 Scurreria Beer & Bagel (Bar) VIA DI SCURRERIA 22R Cozy place in one of the many small alleys of Genova. 12 taps and 2 casks with a good variety of Italian micros (and one German pilsner). The bottle selection focuses on Belgian sours. The bartenders are super friendly and very knowledgeable and the prices are very decent indeed. If you are hungry, I recommend the Vitello Tonatto - the best I've ever tried. Best beer place in Genova. Oh, and unlike many place in Italy, they actually open at 6PM, when they say the open at 6PM. Very refreshing |
| 56 /100 Eataly Genova (Grocery Store) CALATA CATTANEO, 15 A decent selection of bottles from various countries including Italy. There are two bars. One is primarily a wine bar also serving Pilsner Urquell. The other one has 5-6 taps of Italian micros but unfortunately it was closed at my visit (4PM) |
| 78 /100 Kamun Lab Pub (Bar) VIA DI SAN BERNARDO 53 R Had a few hours before the cruise ship left the port so I took a cab to this place. He dropped me off in an alley. No where I'm from, being in an alley in a decent sized city is usually not a good thing so I was a bit concerned at first. I walked around for a little bit and eventually found it and it turned out to be a really nice place. As it turns out, alleys are common there and I eventually saw all kinds of people walking around.
Probably seven or eight beers on tap and a few others in bottles. Most beers were 6% and less but one stout weighed in at 11%. We were given a complimentary meat and cheese board that was really good as well. |
| 82 /100 Scurreria Beer & Bagel (Bar) VIA DI SCURRERIA 22R Bar in middle of Genoa with good local selection. Really helpful service. |
| 82 /100 Scurreria Beer & Bagel (Bar) VIA DI SCURRERIA 22R Very fun place, good tap selection, great staff. Hoping place near the center with a small food plate when you order beer. Recommended. |
| 80 /100 Jalapeño Genova (Bar) VIA DELLA MADDALENA 52R This is a sort of tapas bar where you can have a seat and enjoy the Spanish oriented food in completely comfort ... Naparbier , glazen toren, nadir ( Liguria brewery ) and more.. .. Easy to visit with Giangaspero crocery store just next door and they have different opening time at lunchtime so you can do both ..
A NEW PLACE WITH THE SAME NAME AND OWNERS OPENED JUST NEXT DOOR..
9 changing taps with a good selection open from midday to late night ( depends how much busy is ) and closed on Sunday... the 2 places are connected underneath and share the same kitchen so you can order the food from one or the other bar... good add in town |
| 80 /100 La Coccagna (Restaurant) VICO DI COCCAGNA 17R Nice tiny place in a quiet area of the old town... half way between a pub and a little restaurant with approximately 10 taps all from the local brewery Maltus Faber and a good choice of dishes of Mediterranean cuisine.. nice and kind service.. |
| 80 /100 Ai Troeggi (Bar) VIA CHIABRERA 61/R After the refurbishment ( August 2017 ) I Troeggi looks nicer than before and now they have 6 taps plus an handpump with a selection more than good .. The place look nice in the typical way for the Genova " vicoli " .. Maybe is missing a good bar area where to stand and talk with the bartenders but maybe they prefer the service to the tables instead .. The selection on tap was Italian micros focused .. in the fridge some little gem for genova’s selection which is very basic .. Food Is bruschetta prepared in many ways with top quality ingredients .. Don’t think we can call this place a beer bar only ,cause they have a very good choice of wine too but is still one of the best place in town !! |
| 48 /100 Britannia Pub - Genova (Bar) VICO CASANA 76R The place is old in a bad way.. I mean it looks like a proper English pub and all the fornitures are really nice but no English atmosphere at all .. selection very poor with Stella or Guinness.. food good just for filling up your belly for the next poor level pint .. this place could be very much better but the owners look tired and with no passion on craft beers .. |
| 80 /100 Kamun Lab Pub (Bar) VIA DI SAN BERNARDO 53 R Visited November 2014 .. The place is nice and cosy and for the beer desert which Genova is this is a good spot , Is the facto brewery tap of kamun so the selection is wide in styles but not in breweries , Some of their beers are very good with the nocturna and the fabula top notch but others did not convince me ( only my opinion ) .. Food is basic .. Not too bad for Genova .. REVISITED MANY TIMES IN THE LAST 2 YEARS .. the place and the beers are improved and some taps has been added .. new beers from Kamun has been brewed and now they serve some guest beer.. Nucis , Nocturnal and Fabula are great beer when in good shape ..even the food improved with panini , cheese board and arrosticini are served now ..the Genova’s beer scene is changed a lot in the last years and this is still one of the best place.. |
| 74 /100 Beershop Maddalena (Beer Store) VIA DELLA MADDALENA, 50R What can I say, this is quite bonkers, it’s a fruit and veg’ shop selling beers as well. I would never have taken any notice of it were it not for the owner of Jalapeño next door telling me about it. So it’s located in the old town, it’s in an area riddled with ladies of the night plying their trade and more than a few dodgy looking characters milling about, however we never once felt threatened. We visited Saturday 11th February 2017. All of the fruit and vegetables are on display at the front as you might expect, with the beers on shelves and fridges along the rear wall. There is a large range over 300 bottles that Loz counted and I picked up some pretty rare stuff from Italian micro’s judging by the ratings on here, so it is absolutely a must if you are in the area. Please be aware that it’s cash only this caught me out and I had to walk a good way to get some money out. Prices were very reasonable, choice excellent, staff were fine though not so chatty, and wow this was popular with quite a few folk ignoring the fruit and vegetables and browsing the beer selection. A good stop off. |
| 74 /100 Kamun Lab Pub (Bar) VIA DI SAN BERNARDO 53 R Kamun Lab Pub is another place that is tucked away amongst the many lanes and alleyways of the old town in Genoa. It isn’t far to walk here from Scurreria (5 mins) Jalapeno (8-10 mins), but it’s probably closest to Ai Troeggi which must be just a couple of minutes away. We visited here on Thursday 9th February 2017, its a small place and the layout reminded me very much of Paters Vaetje in Antwerp, i.e. small bar area with seating opposite and then further seating above which overlooks the bar area. It was an old building so expect quite a few original features, however it is also a modern Brewpub so there were quite a few modern touches as well. I have to say it was a touch gloomy (Loz likes dark places) so I never really took in a huge amount of detail. We liked it here, and would probably have come here again but for some reason never got around to it in our quest to try other places as well. The beer choice was primarily from their own selection but there were one or two others on offer. Service was good, staff were friendly, some beers were better than others, however there wasn’t anything that I disliked. We liked it here and would happily return. |
| 90 /100 Scurreria Beer & Bagel (Bar) VIA DI SCURRERIA 22R Scurreria is without doubt the best place in Genoa/Genova by some
distance, it is deservedly popular as it offers a fabulous and regularly
changing selection of beers. We frequented here all three days that we
were in Genoa, so 9th, 10th and 11th February 2017. Scurreria is located
on a corner in the old town along a street of the same name and once you
have familiarised yourself with the myriad alleys and streets in the old
town then getting to and from here isn’t an issue. It’s also worth
noting that it is relatively close to Jalapeño and Ai Troeggi two other
very decent beer spots. Inside it has a very modern look, not surprising really as I understand that it’s not quite two years old yet, the first part of the bar that you walk through appears to be just seating, this then opens up when you get to the actual bar at the far end with some further seating as well as stools along the bar and facing the outside window. We both liked the serving dispense method which saw the beers being drawn from taps coming down from the ceiling. Jiorgio/Giorgio (not sure how he spells his name) and his partner were both excellent bartenders and worked non stop, in fact their keen and enthusiastic group of staff were all great. Quite amazingly we had something in common with Giorgio as he knew Angelo (Moncada brewery) having had a rather drunken night out in London ten years previously where they both drank lots of Crouch Vale Brewers Gold. I liked the layout it worked well and clearly there is a real passion for craft beers judging by the amount of folk in here, many of whom were checking out the beer selection via Untapped The beer selection was great I didn’t count the actual amount of taps but I think there was about 10 keg and two cask (handpumps)with a further cask/pin added each night over the weekend. There was a great selection of Italian micros’, with the odd Scandanavian offering and a UK beer on cask in the form of Buxton Moor Top as I recall. On Friday 10th and Saturday 12th there were a couple of cracking German offerings both from Bamberg I believe. Every beer I had I really enjoyed and speaking to Giorgio you could tell how passionate he was about the beers that they stocked, he seemed to know everything about them, telling us which beers and breweries were award winners, and best new breweries. I never even queried if they had any bottles, it never even occurred to me to even think about them when the tap selection was so good. We really liked this place, prices were very good, btw the food also looked great. |
| 82 /100 Jalapeño Genova (Bar) VIA DELLA MADDALENA 52R I would say that Jalapeño was probably our second favourite bar in town,
strictly speaking I think that it’s classed as a Tapas bar but you are
quite welcome to come here and just have a beer. We visited here Friday
10th and again on Saturday 11th February 2017, it was really quite busy
on the Friday but much quieter on the Saturday afternoon, in fact for
much of the time we were the only ones here with the owner and his
girlfriend and their two very young children as well as what appeared to
be the owners mother I believe. Jalapeño is about 5 minutes walk away
from Scurreria, again it’s located within the maze of alleyways that
make up the old town, it seems to be quite close to a red light area.
It’s a medium sized rectangular shaped place, large windows look out onto the narrow alley. As you enter the serving area (remember this is mainly a food place) is ahead on the right hand side of the serving area are located five beer taps (Italian micros with one Canadian beer) and off to the right of here are some fridges offering a great selection of bottled beer choices. There is plenty of seating with heavy duty metal topped tables throughout. The floor was great it was tiled it reminded me of one of those geometric 3D pictures a little like an optical illusion. The food was very good you can choose as little or as much as you like with pricing determined by serving size, I believe that the owners girlfriend is Spanish, hence the tapas idea. There was a great selection of beers in bottle. In fact the page for this place needs updating as we reckon that there are well over a hundred beers and chatting to the bar owner he confirmed the total as being upwards of 150. We spent quite a bit of time chatting to the owner on the Sunday, mostly just swapping beer information, he was a lovely chap and we liked the set up. The beers had a number of Belgian classics amongst their number as well as very good selection of small Italian and Spanish micros, we were very impressed with the choice and also with the very reasonable pricing, the owner was also great at recommending beers. We really liked this place, the owner is clearly working really hard to get into the burgeoning new beer scene hitting Genoa and is learning as he goes. What I also liked about both here and Scurreria both of the owners each recommended a wonderful place for a local Genovese/Ligurian food at lovely little places where the prices were very, very reasonable. |
| 70 /100 Ai Troeggi (Bar) VIA CHIABRERA 61/R We visited here Friday 10th February 2017, however it wasn’t altogether
obvious to us where this place was located as they appear to have a wine
shop of the same name about 50metres or so away, which we kept trying to go
into their before realising our error. It’s located close to the Piazza
San Lorenzo down an alleyway called via Chiabrera, just make sure that
you walk on past their wine shop and following this it’s just a short walk past here once you have crossed over the next alleyway It was really, really busy in here, standing room only for us at the bar, so I never really got to grips with the layout, however the entrance is quite narrow with some seating on the left hand side this then opens up and the bar and a food preparation area is off to the RH side. There appeared to be another room off to the left and a further room beyond the bar which had a big screen and was showing an Italian football match. We stood here having selected from the 4-5 keg choices all Italian micros I believe. It was fascinating watching just how hard the staff worked, particularly those who were preparing food, it was like a conveyor belt of stuff heading away from here to customers with lots of breads being toasted and then thickly spread with pesto, tapenade, gorgonzola and cured meats etc, you could not believe how much stuff they were churning out, we watched both them and the bartenders work really hard with the constant orders. It was one of those places that had a very busy, dare I say cluttered feel with the decor as well, a picnic blanket was laid out above your head stuck to the ceilings and then there were lots of photos from around the work with people displaying where they are with the Ai Troeggi logo etc. Beer choice as already mentioned was all Italian, Loz had one of her new favourites this holiday Crak Guerrila, I had a Helles called SS46, both were in great nick. We liked it here, we liked the hustle and bustle and just people watching, it would be interesting coming back here at a quieter time, if indeed there is such a thing with this popular place. |
| 80 /100 Eataly Genova (Grocery Store) CALATA CATTANEO, 15 We visited here Thursday 9th February 2017, our hotel was very close (NH Collection Genova Marina) for orientation purposes this place is also very close to the huge Aquarium, Tourist Information and the replica Galleon boat which is also next to our hotel. Eataly is on the top floor, I believe you can go up via steps to the side near the Tourist Information or better still the glass elevator on the waterfront side, we took this option. I have been to two Eatalys now and the format is similar, it’s like a huge market place Deli with eating areas amongst, I guess that the layout here was similar, though the eating was a little bit seperate at the far end, in fact its off to the right on exiting the lift, though strictly speaking I think that you have to go left through the fruit and vegetables before it snakes back around to the right past the cheese, meats etc. It is just after here that you will find the beers. The beer choice is actually very good, ok so there is a rather average selection of UK, Belgian and rest of world beers but it’s the Italian beers that you would come for and the range, variety and prices don’t disappoint. There were a few Ligurian beers in fact there may have been quite a few I am really not so familiar with Italian micros. The beers are on the RH side here from floor to ceiling. We just selected a couple to have back at the room later. You can also drink beer on site, we had an excellent pizza washed down with a very good Maltus Faber Tripel Hop 750ml beer which was €11 to drink in or €8 something to take away. I like it here, the choice and quality of the food is excellent. We will definitely return again to stock up before the end of our break. |
