Jeroboams (Beer Store)
29 HEATH STREET
“Visited August 2023 whilst on a foodie crawl round the delicatessens of the area. I wanted a brew to have with the picnic feast we were putting together to have up at the incredible Hill Gardens on Hampstead Heath. Jeroboams seemed to have the largest packaged beer selection in the area (beating the nearby Oddbins). About 60 cans and bottles, split between a fridge and shelves which are both on the left as you go in the door. It's a mix of London and national craft, the usual Belgians and Germans, and a few world lagers. There's nothing too unusual or exciting, but it's a well thought-out mix and I found a Thornbridge collab that I'd never heard of which was spot on with the picnic, so I was happy. Friendly staff too, and the prices were surprising reasonable for London. If you're in Hampstead and want a takeout beer for a picnic on the Heath, this is probably the place for you.“

“It's a Sam Smith's house, so you know the drill, just their own offerings. It was handy for me as I was catching a coach nearby. In an area that is short on pubs, the Swiss Cottage is a decent option to have.“

Hampstead Food & Drink (Grocery Store)
200 W END LANE
“A shop specialising in Balkan goods. Has a somewhat small but very interesting range of beers from countries such as Serbia, Slovenia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Croatia and others. Pretty much all pale lager, some radler. Aside from these obscure beers, the selection comprises pretty much all the usual macro stuff you'd find at any other off license. No craft beers to speak of. Prices were more than fair. Man behind the counter left me alone - no complaints from me. Good range of foodstuffs as well. Only really a shop to go out of your way for if you are desperate for some of these countries. It's worth noting, also, I think the shop does deliver via their website.“

“An easy walk south-east from Hampstead Heath tube station, this dark painted pub occupying the contours of one corner of a road junction has been given a very nice makeover and is sympathetically traditional in design. Its front facing bar has plenty of cask and keg from craft brewers and has lots of local stuff, all chalked up on a board on the wall to the right after you enter. A real plus though is its walled garden at the rear, which is a lovely place to sup.“

“Just off the main road immediately south of West Hampstead tube station, this is a cafe-bar with a good vibe, although the bar on the right hand side of the room doesn't sell the most eclectic mix of crafted brews. There's plenty on offer from a range of London microbrewers, but mostly just regular brews that you can find city wide. Visited in December 2019.“

“Traditional urban pub, very attractive Victorian style with the bar spanning a couple of front facing rooms down an alleyway street. The Youngs brews were all very familiar to me but a guest real cider was available here too.“

“Large place with a huge patio/outdoor area in a very well heeled area. It has a gastro-pub feel to it and prices to match. We paid £5.75 for a (very well kept) pint of Landlord and even though I went to the bar to order I was still charge a 10% service charge. We only had the one pint!“

“On the southern side of the Hampstead Heath London Overground station, you'll come across the large patio garden area first if its gates are open, which is very appealing. Inside the also attractive enough pub building you'll find a large open space on most sides of the centrally located bar. There's a somewhat chain appearance to the place, but it's certainly pleasant enough in the traditional sense. 5 cask ales provided nothing new for me here, but it has several craft keg options too which got my attention.“

“In a small lane behind the business to the North of Hamstead Tube Station, this is a wonderfully traditional pub, with a somewhat countrified feel about it, despite being in urban London. The small front disguises a multi-roomed venue with small rotund tables in front of the bar area after you walk in, with more suitable dining tables in other rooms and at the back where it's encouraged! There's some lovely wood panelling in this cosy public house too. The beer selection is mostly Fullers, certainly in the beers and ales side of things. Keg and cask with most of the regular brews from Fullers here.“

“On a corner as the main road heads up the hill towards the tube station. This Camden Town bar is a large single room, mostly wooden in design and furniture, with a focus on food - the service hatch for this evident towards the rear. The bar is against the side wall before this, sporting mostly lines for the breweries own beers (although only half were in use with the other half say 'Camden Brew Coming Soon' on my visit). There's four guests too. Only one new beer in the latter selection for me as this venue was only serving the most often brewed by Camden Town - which are everywhere in bars around London already!!!!“

“East of the top part of the commercial centre of Hampstead down a residential street, the building is set back from the road, but this allows for a raised terrace area that's certainly a pleasant place to drink. The inside is nice too, traditional in style but with modern touches throughout. I stumbled upon a quiz night on a Monday, so stuck out on my own whilst everyone else was filling in their answers! The beer selection wasn't one to keep you here long though, with its two cask being the often seen London Pride and Dark Star Hophead, whilst its half dozen crafted keg lines provided only one new beer for me from Kernal Brewery - the rest were often seen London based brews.“

“Huge historic pub building on the cusp of Hamstead Heath, and only a few minutes walk north of the London Overground Station. A large bright open plan room, a long bar greets you as enter with all the seating surrounding it on three sides, you pretty much come here for the place rather than for the beer as the selection is weak. Its two hand pumps had Sharps Doom Bar and London Pride on them, whilst the only 'crafted' keg line was Meantime Lager. The front terrace area is lovely, and I'd imagine in summer it gets full quickly if the weather is good.“

“Comfortable and upmarket café bar not far from West Hampstead Tube. Service is fairly formal but no less affable for it. They offer a few beers on tap, mostly easily available stuff but I got a saison from Hop Stuff which only had one rate before me. The bottle/can menu offers Magic Rock, Gipsy Hill, Paulaner and Westmalle, i.e. fairly standard offerings but nothing you would turn down. As befits the location and atmosphere, the beer (and the small food menu) isn't particularly cheap but neither did it make my eyes water. Not a destination but certainly a place to check out if you're in the area, especially as this part of town isn't overrun with options.“

Vini Vivi (Beer Store)
35B MILL LANE
“Very small shop, hidden away on Mill Lane. About 10mins walk from the main drag of shops in West Hampstead. Predominantly, wines but some spirits, limited local artisan foodstuffs, and very limited beer selection. One chiller, and an overflow of stock crates on the floor. A good high quality selection for the range they offer. A few bottles I’ve not seen anywhere else in London, and a few stables that could easily be picked up in the local supermarket. The price is good. Picked up 4 good bottles today for £11.00. Service is a bit grumpy. As it’s local I do, and will continue to, frequent. But not worth a special trip. Really a wine store with a nice, yet token offering of craft beer. Off the top of my head; Rochefort Trappist range, St. Feuillen, Kona range, Paulaner Hefe and Munich Helles, among others. Have tagged what I bought today.“

“Rare nice place it is a bit hard to describe. In many way an old traditional English pub with two separate entrances. You can get from one side to the other by walking through gents toilet ha ha. Or off course you can walk out, have a pint at the patio and walk in to the other side.
At the entrance it seems like a standard nice old pub, but if you walk further backwards in the pub. It seems like a modern looking café.
Anyway quite nice place. Decent beer selection. And good service. I wanted to try a scrumpy cider. Well it was empty. But wait a minute she said. 5 min later she pops up from the basement with my pint.
Only a couple of minutes walk from the tube station.
Absolutely a recommendable stop in Hampstead“

“Holy shit. What a place. I really like this very old British gems. Well kept pub. Nothing is in shape. Lovely patio also.
Decent beer selection at my visit. Some cask, some taps and some interesting bottles. Good food.
It is really not that difficult to find either. No point using a cab. To get a cab take some time. Use your feet. If you are coming to Hampstead with the tube. Turn right when you leave the station. Up the hill and you are halfway there. You will pass a lovely park on your trip. Convenient with a pit stop there. Make sure you have some goodies with you. You have a magic view of London skyline from the park. After that walk you will enjoy the Spaniards even more. As people have done for centuries.
More or less a must visit place! The “low” ranking is because the beer scene is not that solid. But it is absolutely decent.“

“Visited on 25th June 2017. Large pub a few minutes walk from Hampstead Heath station. It was certainly popular with the huge garden out the back very busy, also aided by the fact free gig was on. Interior is well decorated, clean and smart. Plenty of room inside as well. Beer range was pretty good with a good mix of styles and beers from Europe. Picked up a new BBno and a To Ol beer here. Quality and prices were good, service good. Liked this place and the best in the area.“

“Visited on 25th June 2017. Lovely old pub in deepest Hampstead. Huge interior and patio out front and another massive beer garden. Decor is nice and smart. However the crowd is awful with spoiled brats squawking and it almost feels like a made in Chelsea set. Beer range is poor. Macro Lager, 2 meantime beers plus doom bar and Pride on cask. Prices not bad and service OK. Would return for the venue but not clientele or beer“

“Visited on 25th June 2017. Map shows venue in wrong place. Modern single roomed pub on busy Street. Stopped by on a busy Sunday. Some seating available but focus on food. Modern clean decor, with a main seating area by bar, a little mezzanine level plus another little side area gives it quite a spacious feel. 8 beers from Camden Town plus 6 guests including cider and a couple of cask beers. Prices OK. Ambiance OK and service OK. Not sure I’d rush back but not a brewpub and edited to reflect that. If you’re a Camden fan it’s got the core range.“

“Just south of the tube station, this is a chain pub in style, but a well-to-do one with the bar against its side wall serving cask and craft keg with lots of London options available. The place was packed with people watching the Republic of Ireland in Euro 2016 when I walked in, although it’s not an Irish pub.“

Bohemia House (Restaurant)

“A very strange place, with several rooms of an ordinary dwelling converted into what is both a pub and a restaurant, but it’s all very ’commune’ in design and feel. It still very much feels like a house. There’s only a couple of Czech lagers available and the odds are you’ve come across them many times before, but if the weather is good sit in the extensive back garden area for a relaxing sup.“

“More attractive as a traditional pub in its exterior than interior, this place could do with an update inside, but there’s certainly features such as large original fireplaces that would compliment an update and whilst retaining its historic character. It’s slightly chain-like inside with a passable range of cask ales, although if you find yourself on the Finchley Road wanting to watch some live football this is the place to come and Euro 2016 was in full flow here on my visit. There’s an outdoor area at the back where the hill starts.“

“A fairly uninspiring basic pub near the train stations in West Hampstead. Rather more working class punters than many local residents, decent open space, sport on TV, 4 casks, some kegs of which one or two safe crafty. Would add a stop on a local pub crawl, that’s about it really. Oh yeah and it has a pool table, so all is not totally lost!“

“Reason I’ve added this place is the fact there are no pubs in Belsize listed other than North Star and if you’re staying nearby you might want a pint before bed like I did. Pub has nice wooden interior, local and just a bit upscale feel to it. It had 5 cask ales. I believe Doombar and Landlord are regulars while other are rotating. Also decent choice of kegs like Meantime or Paulaner. Sure it’s not essential visit if you look whole London, but if you’re around it’s not a bad choice for a pint or two.“

“Nice pub hidden away round the back of the Royal Free from Hampstead Heath. Good outside area, great in summer, has live music and stuff. Food is adequate, service friendly but can be a little dopey. Beer selection has recently been stepped up massively, trying to be a craft beer venue. My only criticism would be after a recent visit that a bit more style variety would be nice; it’s all well and good having 20 beers available, but if it’s golden cask ales, golden keg pale ales and err golden lagers plus Guinness it’s a bit samey. Re-rate 2020. Food seems a bit better and there was a bit more variety on a still extensive tap menu.“

“Large, famous old historical pub situated conveniently for Hampstead Heath, a big draw for walkers. Nice old building and sizeable outside area. Great location. Slightly relies on this and the history bit, the beer selection is wide but strangely uninspired and casks not especially well kept. Food is solid but you can do much better in other Heath pubs and prices here are high.“

“A largish shop for an Oddbins, but maybe it seems spacious because it’s not as tightly packed as some of their places. There are several shelves and two fridges given over to beer, with small London breweries well represented alongside Siren and a few others from around the country and abroad. It probably doesn’t justify a special journey but it’s certainly worth a look if you’re in the area. (Visited 31 March 2015).“

“This place recently re-opened after a refurb and re-brand. The beer selection has improved! Much more overtly beer focused. 20 beers in theory although two repeats meant 18 beers in total of which 7 from the sponsor Camden Town; just two casks. Lots of pale ales - cold, hoppy and a little bit overpriced. Wine list completely gone. Younger, more studenty crowd. No change in bar staff quality. Food situation gone massively downhill, menu shortened considerably and they wouldn’t serve us food in the main pub area, which seems odd. And if I wanted chicken I’d go to Nando’s. Still, it’s a great beer selection and makes it the standout beer pub in the area. Old review - Good pub for food and drink in the middle of Hampstead. Quite a busy place, food is normally decent but can vary, service struggles when busy, beer selection good with a range of Camden Town on keg and a couple of cask beers on rotation - the likes of Redemption and Magic Rock feature. The bottle selection is small but good too. Long wine list.“

“Large and popular pub situated very close to Hampstead Heath. Huge space, inside and outside, pleasant airy rooms, bustling, big focus on food which I would say is decent but not extraordinary, atmosphere on border of being maybe a little corporate?? Victim of its own success maybe. Beer selection always slightly disappoints, 3-4 casks normally gummed up with the likes of Adnams and Doom Bar, plus some rather dull lager options. I’d happily come here if I were visiting the Heath, great option to know in the area, but if you’re looking for good beer try the Garden Gate or pubs in Hampstead proper.“

“A great pub&kitchen, home of the Camden Town Brewery. Full marks for their excellent beers on tap, and for offering us samples. Very friendly staff, although both barman and waitresses would have benefited from a more solid knowledge of their beers. Their excellent food (at very reasonable prices) were complimented by their beers. They have a different (and elegantly designed) meny every day. Will definitely come again next time I’m in London.“
