Hazebrouck Beer Guide: Your Hazebrouck guide to beer, beer bars, breweries and brewpubs

“Part of a growing trend throughout France of bar / bottle shops opening in retail parks on the outskirts of town centres. Clearly very popular, though their high rent & rates must be tough going. A david compared to the mighty V&B chain goliath, Chope'n Shop (a reference to the French slang 'Chope' for a glass of draft beer) appears to be independent, decor heavy on used pallet benches, wooden cable drum tables etc.. with an identifiable nod towards a rock / alternative vibe, with motorhead plaques and a good radio station playing the likes of Sonic Youth and Porno for Pyros! Indeed, the popular DJ of a regional Friday night rock and metal radio show popped in as we were sat, talking about a gig happening in the shop the following week. Quite a decent selection of bottles, with a large wall dedicated to Belgian beer staples, plus a good range of Northern France craft newcomers. Good to see so many new to me. Draft sees a focus on regional French craft, three from Katsbier which all tasted great, plus some from Leone and Lille breweries. Some basic food offerings, such as fries, boards etc.. plus cocktails, wine and spirits. Big tv screen showing sport. Nice indie vibe here, something the area was desperately in need of and by the looks of it locals have taken to this place with open arms.“
