“Be glad of this place, because you won’t get a lot of choice in this part of the world. Pretty small outlet, but at least it exists!“

“Not a lot JDWs on our Highlands tour, but considering the size of towns I guess that’s understandable. This one felt a bit worn out compared to the southern pubs from the chain. Food was OK, as long as you don’t expect too much. Beer selection was actually decent, considering other pubs this north. four casks were on, 2 or three were out. Besides real ale they had bottled Lagunitas, Sixpoint, Brewdog, Brooklyn, pretty much standard JDW selection.“

“Located in the centre of Wick, the Alexander Bain is at present (Nov ’13) the most northerly in the JDW chain. The pub comprises one large room divided by a couple of pillars and one much smaller side room. Seating is a mix of high and low stools/chairs and tables. The place was fairly busy on a Sunday lunchtime, all locals having Sunday lunch and watching the football on Sky Sports. Beer wise the range was very limited. This visit was during the first weekend of the JDW Autumn BF and only 2 cask ales were on, both UK/US collabs from the fest. The conditioning was good but only 2 was something of a let down. Service was fine and they coped pretty well with the 40 people who descended upon them from our train. Anywhere else in the country you wouldn’t bother with this place, in these parts it’s a go to destination !!!“

“Rather a grand building in the centre of Wick, popped in for a quick couple of pints on my LeJog’13 walk. Normal slowish service as it was pretty full. Only game in town for Real Ales in Wick and the North East coast in general.“
